Switching circuit on power supply for magnetic disk recording device
According to one embodiment, there is provided a disk device including a head, a disk, a first motor, and a first circuit. The disk has a recording surface. The first motor causes the head to seek along the recording surface. The first circuit can switch between a first state and a second state. The first state is a state where a current path of the first motor is electrically cut off from a first electricity storage unit. The second state is a state where the current path of the first motor is electrically connected to the first electricity storage unit.

Controlling startup of hard disk drive (HDD) by locking initialization of small computer system interface (SCSI) state(s) using an out-of-band (OOB) negotiation process
A method and apparatus for controlling startup of a hard disk drive system, and a storage device. The hard disk drive system includes two or more hard disk drives. The method for controlling startup of a hard disk drive system includes: latching the initialization states of all the hard disk drives after all hard disk drives are powered on; dividing all hard disk drives into two or more hard drive groups, each hard drive group includes more than one hard disk drive; sequentially perform link initialization negotiation on each hard drive group by using a port protocol; and in an OOB negotiation process of the link initialization negotiation, by setting the state of an SCSI application layer power state machine, control a motor of each hard disk drive in the hard drive group to enter a spinning state.
DISK DEVICE AND INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS
According to one embodiment, there is provided a disk device including a head, a disk, a first motor, and a first circuit. The disk has a recording surface. The first motor causes the head to seek along the recording surface. The first circuit can switch between a first state and a second state. The first state is a state where a current path of the first motor is electrically cut off from a first electricity storage unit. The second state is a state where the current path of the first motor is electrically connected to the first electricity storage unit.
Data storage device measuring difference between read signals when reading a preamble with multiple read elements
A data storage device is disclosed comprising a disk comprising a plurality of data tracks, wherein each data track comprises a plurality of data sectors, each data sector comprises a preamble, and the preambles of adjacent data tracks are recorded at different frequencies. A first read element and a second read element of a head are positioned over a first preamble of a first data track to generate a first read signal emanating from the first read element and a second read signal emanating from the second read element. A first metric is generated based on the first read signal and a second metric is generated based on the second read signal. A difference between the first metric and the second metric is generated and used, for example, to servo the head over the disk or to measure a radial offset between the read elements.
Data storage device with high signal-to-noise ratio contact detection
A data storage device may have increased signal-to-noise ratio contact detection by employing a transducing head assembly separated from a data storage medium by an air bearing with the transducing head assembly receiving an alternating current as directed from a controller. The alternating current can be configured to induce random transducing head motion when the air bearing has a greater than zero size and a cyclical transducing head motion when the air bearing has a zero size.
Media recording element
A media recording element having capabilities to facilitate recording media for subsequent playback. The recording element further including features associated with limited operations of a hard drive of other similarly mechanical memory under certain operating conditions so as to limit power consumption and/or memory degradation.
Data Storage Device with High Signal-to-Noise Ratio Contact Detection
A data storage device may have increased signal-to-noise ratio contact detection by employing a transducing head associated with a data storage medium each connected to a controller. The transducing head can have an alternating current heater excited to a first frequency for a first revolution of the data storage medium and to a different second frequency for a second revolution of the data storage medium. The second frequency may produce lateral transducing head motion as a result of physical contact of the transducing head with the data storage medium. The controller can issue a contact status in response to comparing a first plurality of position error signals logged during the first frequency to a second plurality of position error signals logged during the second frequency.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR REDUCING AUDIO DISTORTION DURING PLAYBACK OF PHONOGRAPH RECORDS USING MULTIPLE TONEARM GEOMETRIES
Systems and methods are disclosed relating to electro-mechanical devices and related computer control and audio processing systems intended to optimize playback fidelity of phonograph records. Said recordings are manufactured by a process that employs a cutting head assembly driven in a straight path from the outer to the inner-most radius of the recordable surface. However, most record turntables device that are used to play back phonograph records rely on a stylus transducer attached to the end of a pivoting arm. Instead of the linear path followed by the original cutting head, said tonearm traces an arc across the surface of the recorded disk resulting in playback distortion proportional to error in alignment of said stylus relative to the tangent of the groove. This invention addresses this deficiency and produces an optimal audio quality of playback of phonograph records.
Modular data storage device testing system
A data storage device testing system may be configured with at least a test slot, a loader assembly, and an exchange assembly. The loader assembly can be positioned to respectively engage and disengage a test deck with the test slot. The exchange assembly may be configured to open an access port portion of the test deck and subsequently replace a tested data storage component housed within the first test deck with an untested data storage component.
