Thermal control process for a multijunction electronic power device and corresponding electronic power device
A thermal control process for an electronic power device including a multi junction integrated circuit may include defining a first and at least one second groups of junctions, with each group including one first and at least one second junctions, and associating a thermal detector with each group. A first group control may be executed which detects group electric signals representative of the temperature detected by the thermal detectors, processes the group electric signals with reference to a group critical thermal event, identifies a critical group when the corresponding group electric signal detects the critical group thermal event, and generates group deactivating signals suitable for selectively deactivating the first and the at least one second junctions of the identified critical group with respect to the remaining junctions of the integrated circuit.
Voltage-controlled resistor based on phase transition materials
A voltage-controlled resistor is provided. The resistor structure includes first and second resistive elements each including a phase change material that changes resistance in response to a change in temperature of the phase change material. A heating element is arranged in thermal contact with the first and second resistive elements. A control circuit receives a selected input voltage and supplies power based on the selected input voltage to the heating element to heat the first and second resistive elements to a selected temperature. The first and second resistive elements, which are proximate to and electrically isolated from each other, have a selected resistance at the selected temperature. A feedback circuit senses a change in temperature of the first resistive element and adjusts power supplied to the heating element based on the change in temperature of the first resistive element to maintain a resistance of the second resistive element at the selected resistance.
Zero Power Plasmonic Microelectromechanical Device
A zero-power plasmonic microelectromechanical system (MEMS) device is capable of specifically sensing electromagnetic radiation and performing signal processing operations. Such devices are highly sensitive relays that consume no more than 10 nW of power, utilizing the energy in detected electromagnetic radiation to detect and discriminate a target without the need of any additional power source. The devices can continuously monitor an environment and wake up an electronic circuit upon detection of a specific trigger signature of electromagnetic radiation, such as vehicular exhaust, gunfire, an explosion, a fire, a human or animal, and a variety of sources of radiation from the ultraviolet to visible light, to infrared, to terahertz radiation.

Dual Set Point Temperature Switch
The temperature switch includes a housing, an actuator, a switch, and a force buffer situated between the actuator and the switch. The switch is movable between a first and second state in response to imposition and release of an actuating force F.sub.A. The force buffer transmits the actuating force F.sub.A from the actuator to the switch when compressed a first distance in the first direction by extension of the actuator in response to an increase in temperature T.sub.1. At temperature T.sub.1, the force buffer transmits the force F.sub.A to move the switch from the first state to the second state. The actuator retracts a second distance in the second direction in response to a decrease in temperature T.sub.2. At temperature T.sub.2, the force buffer releases the force F.sub.A and the switch moves from the second state to the first state.
Living body detector and power-saving mode setting method
The state of an object such as a presence or absence of the object in a sensor visual field is detected with accuracy. For this end, a DC output Sdc that is a direct current component of a temperature sensor output value S is operated. Based on this, a fluctuation level representing whether a fluctuation is caused by a user or someone else who passes by is acquired. When the DC output Sdc is lower than a DC output threshold THdc, an absence determination counter is incremented when the fluctuation is not caused by either the user or the someone else who passes by, and the state of absence is determined when the absence determination counter reaches the upper limit. When the fluctuation is caused by either the user or someone else who passes by, the absence determination counter is reset.
