A transport device for automatically transporting living poultry animals in a transport direction is disclosed, along with a method for automatically transporting living poultry animals in a transport direction, a method for commencing the operation of a transport device, and a method for automatically performing a handling operation on living poultry animals, and to the use of a transport device. The transport device comprises a transport rail which extends along a transport axis and which has two guide elements and a transport receptacle formed between said guide elements, at least one driver device which has two holding elements, wherein each holding element has a driver portion and a receiving recess, and a drive which is configured to move the at least one driver device along the transport rail.

An animal treatment and handling device and method includes a fabric bag sized and shaped to receive the animal's torso and legs therein, with dorsal and ventral surfaces extending longitudinally from an anterior to a posterior end. The bag includes an adjustable collar at the anterior end, and a first zipper extending along the dorsal surface from an anterior end portion to a posterior end portion. An integral, elongated outer wrap extends transversely with a length sufficient to be wrapped around the bag and the animal therein to impart a uniform, calming pressure to the animal's thorax. A plurality of alternately openable and closable doors provide physician access to the animal through the bag and through the outer wrap.

A livestock head holder with movably supported top and bottom holding members movable by an operating mechanism into a closed state bracing against the topside and underside of an animal's head, neck or jaw region. Selectively attachable scoop extensions for the bottom head holder enable selective enlargement of a neck scoop thereof for more effective performance on larger animals of greater size at said body region. A selectively attachable/removable stabilizer on the top holding member is of increased breadth relative to a main elongated bar of the top holding member to increase the area of surface contact at the topside of said body region. This spreads the holding force over a greater area and reduces pressure concentration on the animal's body to provide increased comfort and a calming effect.
