Modular multi-stage antenna system and component for wireless communications

A wireless device comprises a radiating system that comprises: an antenna system, a ground plane, and a matching network. The antenna system comprises an antenna component including a first multi-section antenna component comprising two sections, each comprising a conductive element. The matching network connected to the antenna system for impedance matching to a first frequency range. The radiating system operates in a frequency range of operation including the first frequency range, the first frequency range comprising a first highest frequency and a first lowest frequency. The first antenna component has a maximum size larger than 1/30 times and smaller than ⅕ times a free-space wavelength corresponding to the lowest frequency of operation. The conductive elements in the different sections of the first antenna component are spaced apart from each other.

Phased array antenna

A phased array antenna includes an array of antenna element modules. Each of the array of antenna element modules includes a dielectric substrate having a lower surface and a radiating element. Each of the antenna element modules also includes an integrated circuit (IC) chip adhered to the lower surface of the dielectric substrate. The IC chip includes a circuit to adjust a signal communicated with the radiating element. The phased array antenna also includes a multi-layer substrate underlying the array of antenna element modules, the multi-layer substrate including a beam forming network (BFN) circuit formed on a layer of the multi-layer substrate and the BFN circuit is in electrical communication with the IC chip of each of the array of antenna element modules.

The antenna apparatus includes a first antenna unit and a second antenna unit, a first decoupling network including a first input port connected to a first feed source; a first output port connected to the first antenna unit; and a first decoupling port; a second decoupling network including a second input port connected to a second feed source; a second output port connected to the second antenna unit; and a second decoupling port; and a decoupling transmission line connected between the first decoupling port and the second decoupling port. The first decoupling network and the decoupling transmission line form a power divider, such that a power input from the first input port is distributed to the first antenna unit and the decoupling transmission line based on a power division ratio of the power divider.

Example radar systems are presented herein. A radar system may include radiating elements configured to radiate electromagnetic energy and arranged symmetrically in a linear array. The radiating elements comprise a set of radiating doublets and a set of radiating singlets. The radar system also includes a waveguide configured to guide electromagnetic energy between each of the plurality of radiating elements and a waveguide feed. The waveguide feed is coupled to the second side of the waveguide at a center location between a first half of the plurality of radiating elements and a second half of the plurality of radiating elements. The waveguide feed is configured to transfer electromagnetic energy between the waveguide and a component external to the waveguides. The radar system may also include a power dividing network defined by the waveguide and configured to divide the electromagnetic energy transferred by the waveguide feed based on a taper profile.
