Two-dimensional planar and crossover-free beamforming network architecture
An antenna system has a two-dimensional field of view, yet can be implemented on a surface, such as on electronic or photonic integrated circuits. The antenna system includes an array of antennas disposed in a predetermined non-linear pattern and a two-dimensional beamforming network (BFN). The antenna system can be steered/selectively beamformed in two dimensions through beam port selection. The beamforming network is disposed entirely on a single first surface. The beamforming network has a one-dimensional array-side interface disposed on the first surface and a one-dimensional beam-side interface disposed on the first surface. The antennas of the array of antennas are individually communicably coupled to the array-side interface. Segments of the beam-side interface map to respective pixels in the two-dimensional field of view.
8T8R Quasi-Omnidirectional Antenna
Disclosed is a quasi-omnidirectional antenna having three array faces, wherein each of the three array faces has a radiator array having a plurality of radiator columns. Each of the corresponding radiator columns on the radiator arrays are coupled together to a single pair of antenna ports, one per polarization. This results in a service beam having three gain lobes that can be swept in unison in a scan. By scanning the service beam, the antenna may enable a high-gain connection to a mobile device, emulating a high gain omnidirectional antenna. Further disclosed is a variation having four array faces spaced 90 degrees apart, which offers additional performance benefits.
Cloaked low band elements for multiband radiating arrays
A multiband antenna, having a reflector, and a first array of first radiating elements having a first operational frequency band, the first radiating elements being a plurality of dipole arms, each dipole arm including a plurality of conductive segments coupled in series by a plurality of inductive elements; and a second array of second radiating elements having a second operational frequency band, wherein the plurality of conductive segments each have a length less than one-half wavelength at the second operational frequency band.
DUAL-BEAM FEED NETWORK AND HYBRID NETWORK ANTENNA WITH DUAL-BEAM FEED NETWORK
A dual-beam feed network includes a first power dividing circuit, a second power dividing circuit, and a third power dividing circuit. The first power dividing circuit is configured to convert a beam signal of a first channel into a plurality of first signals, input one first signal into a third power dividing circuit, and respectively input each remaining first signal to a corresponding antenna radiation unit. The second power dividing circuit is configured to convert a beam signal of a second channel into a plurality of second signals, input one second signal into the third power dividing circuit, and respectively input each remaining second signal to a corresponding antenna radiation unit. The third power dividing circuit is configured to couple and input the received first signal and the received second signal to a shared antenna radiation unit.
Antenna
An apparatus is provided that includes a ground plane having a perimeter, at least one support positioned within the perimeter of the ground plane and extending outwardly from the ground plane and at least one multi-port antenna supported by the support at a distance from the ground plane. The multi-port antenna has a different radiation pattern associated with each port. The multi-port antenna operates with a first radiation pattern when a first port is used and operates with a second radiation pattern, different to the first radiation pattern, when a second port, different to the first port, is used. The at least one support defines a slot positioned between the multi-port antenna and the ground plane and/or the ground plane defines a slot.

System and method for return end-to-end beamforming
Methods and systems are described for providing end-to-end beamforming. For example, end-to-end beamforming systems include end-to-end relays and ground networks to provide communications to user terminals located in user beam coverage areas. The ground segment can include geographically distributed access nodes and a central processing system. Return uplink signals, transmitted from the user terminals, have multipath induced by a plurality of receive/transmit signal paths in the end to end relay and are relayed to the ground network. The ground network, using beamformers, recovers user data streams transmitted by the user terminals from return downlink signals. The ground network, using beamformers generates forward uplink signals from appropriately weighted combinations of user data streams that, after relay by the end-end-end relay, produce forward downlink signals that combine to form user beams.
