Interlocking insulator and conductor cover for electrical distribution systems
11114221 · 2021-09-07 · ·

A dielectric cover for an insulator and conductor in an electrical distribution includes an insulator cover for covering the insulator, an arm for covering a portion of the conductor extending from under the insulator cover, and an arm adapter for securing the arm to the insulator cover. The arm adapter has a raised outer first rib, and the arm has a raised outer second rib and an inner first groove. The lineman positions the insulator cover and arm adapter over the insulator, such as by using a hotstick. Then, the lineman slides the arm down over the arm adapter so that the first rib enters the first groove to secure the arm to the arm adapter. Retaining pins are then inserted through holes in the insulator cover and arm to secure the dielectric cover over the insulator and conductor. The arm's raised second rib acts as a water dam to prevent flashovers.

A drop wire clamp to secure a cable that comprise an outer shell and an inner wedge. The outer shell having a first wall, a second wall, and a shell base to couple the first wall with the second wall. The shell base further defines a shell channel. The inner wedge is receivable in the outer shell and movable between a first position and a second position within the outer shell. The inner wedge has a wedge base defining a wedge channel, wherein the shell channel aligns with the wedge channel in the second position to form a containment structure to house a cable therein. The containment structure includes a length dimension and a width dimension, wherein the length dimension is greater than the width dimension and the length dimension extends in a same direction as the first wall and second wall of the outer shell.

HIGH VOLTAGE CONDUCTOR COVER WITH FENDERS OVER RETAINING PIN HOLES
20210194232 · 2021-06-24 ·

A dielectric cover for an insulator, supporting a high voltage conductor in an electrical distribution system, has holes for receiving retaining pins. The retaining pins are used to secure the cover over the insulator and conductor. Arched fenders, which may be circular or have a bottom opening, extend out from the cover and overlie the holes and ends of the pins. The fenders prevent birds roosting on the pin, increase the dielectric surface length between the top of the cover and the electrical conductor above the pins, and protect the pins from contamination issues which would reduce the dielectric properties of the pins. Contamination issues include birds defecating on the pins, which can create a conductive path between the bird and the inside of the cover, and atmospheric moisture such as rain, snow, and ice on the pins. Thus, wildlife is protected from electrocution.

SHATTER PROTECTION

Shatter protection for a high voltage apparatus with a ceramic insulator includes at least one electrically insulating tube including a plurality of holes going through an envelope surface. The electrically insulating tube has a diameter such that there is a minimum distance between the tube and the ceramic insulator when arranged concentrically. A method for producing a shatter protection includes winding a first helix shape of the electrically insulating fiber composite material at a first pitch such that there is a first gap between the winding turns, and winding a second helix shape of the electrically insulating fiber composite material onto the first helix shape in the opposite direction and at a second pitch, such that there is a second gap between the winding turns. Thereby forming a first electrically insulating tube with holes formed by the first and second gap between the winding turns.

Climate responsive transmission lines

An electrical power transmission line conductor having a bundle of at least one electrical conductor configured for transmission of high voltage alternating current electrical power, at least one strengthening structure bundled with the electrical conductor to provide physical support to the electrical conductor, and at least one magnetocaloric structure having magnetocaloric material. A changing magnetic field generated by transmission of high voltage alternating current electrical power via the at least one conductor causes the magnetocaloric material composition to exhibit a magnetocaloric effect to regulate the operating temperature of the electrical power transmission line conductor.
