Real-time overhead power line sag monitoring

System and method for determining real-time sag and shape information of an electrical power line based on strain distribution along a length of an optical fiber associated with the power line. An embedded fiber coupled to an overhead transmission line measures strain using the backscatter of an optical signal, the optical signal is then interrogated using an interferometer.

Insulator cleaner

The present invention describes an insulator stack cleaner to remove dust and dirt from power line transmission insulators. The cleaner autonomously cleans an insulator stack. The cleaner has two cleaning cups that counter-rotate during cleaning. The cleaner moves along an insulator stack by opening one cleaning cup while the other cup is locked onto an insulator, then the cleaner's transitional motors somersault the open cup onto the next insulator in the stack, and the open cup subsequently closes around the next insulator. A rack and pinion mechanism rotates the closed cup around an insulator and a cam mechanism opens and closes the cup around an insulator. Bristles on the cleaning cups scrub the insulators. The cleaner can be installed onto an insulator stack by a drone.

FIRE RESISTENT COMPOSITE POLE SYSTEM

A utility pole system that provides for easy temperature inspection of the fiberglass reinforced plastic utility pole. The system may include utility pole and a sleeve arranged around the pole, and a temperature sensor positioned underneath the sleeve.

Passive-intermodulation-mitigating mounting assembly

A passive-intermodulation-mitigating mounting assembly for a fixture, such as can be affixed to a utility or communications monopole can include a first bracket and a second bracket respectively defining a first through hole and a second through hole. In some examples, a mounting plate supports an antenna or a radio. A fastener can extend through the first through hole and the second through hole, for instance to couple the first bracket with the second bracket to attach the mounting assembly to a fixture. The passive-intermodulation-mitigating mounting assembly can include a bushing that can be inserted into a through hole, and the bushing can physically and electrically isolate the fastener from one or more of the brackets. The isolation of the bushing helps inhibit the passive-intermodulation of the mounting assembly when the fastener extends, via the first bushing, through at least one of the through holes.
