Low-profile, after-aligned, universal point mount

An anchor for lightning protection systems includes a base and pad that extend over a sufficient area and a sufficient bearing length to hold in shear and in tension against the weight, shear force, and moment of cables, points, and other components of a lightning protection systems. A universal point mount may be forged to optimize cross sectional area and contact surface area throughout the mounting system. Drilled and tapped to receive a point oriented arbitrarily, the head mounts easily on a horizontal or vertical mounting surface. Apertures and fasteners provide arbitrary positioning of a point at any necessary orientation.

A composite material structure includes: a first composite material member including a first reinforcing fiber that is electrically conductive and impregnated with a first resin; a second composite material member including a second reinforcing fiber that is electrically conductive and impregnated with a second resin; an adhesive layer disposed between the first composite material member and the second composite material member to bond the first composite material member to the second composite material member; and an electromagnetic shielding member covering at least part of an area, exposed to an exterior, of the adhesive layer. At least one of the first and second composite material members has a predefined lightning current direction in which a lightning current generated by a lightning strike passes. The shielding member is disposed over an entire plane of a side face in a direction orthogonal to the lightning current direction.

Structural Part For Lightning Strike Protection

A structural part for lightning strike protection, preferably of an aircraft includes a first structure element, wherein the first structure element includes a conducting material and is adapted to conduct electric currents into a grounded conducting airframe structure, and a second structure element, wherein the second structure element includes an outer layer with a first surface, wherein the outer layer includes a composite, preferably carbon-fibre reinforced plastic, CFRP or glass-fibre reinforced plastic GFRP. The structural part further includes a first elongated, preferably wedge-shaped, electrical conductor, with a first end and a second end, wherein the first end of the first elongated electrical conductor is connected to the first structure element and extends through the second structure element to the first surface, so that the second end of the first elongated electrical conductor serves as a lightning receptor without impairing the radar cross section of the aircraft.
