A cover assembly for covering an elongate substrate includes a resilient, elastically expandable sleeve member and a holdout device. The sleeve member defines an axially extending inner sleeve passage. The holdout device includes a generally tubular, flexible bladder sleeve mounted in the inner sleeve passage. The bladder sleeve defines a cavity and a holdout passage to receive the elongate substrate. The cavity is inflated or inflatable with an inflation gas.

The invention solves the problem that the existing pipeline detection device cannot adapt to the detection requirements of different pipeline environments.

A high-voltage device for receiving a high-voltage cable having a conductor designed to conduct an electrical current and a cable insulation surrounding the conductor, includes an insulation and a waveguide. The insulation includes an at least partly transparent or translucent field control unit from a siloxane polymer which is designed to at least partly surround the cable insulation of the high-voltage cable, the siloxane polymer including, in at least one portion of the field control unit, covalently bonded fluorophores and/or dielectric pigments. The waveguide is arranged such that a light signal caused by a partial discharge in the field control unit can be coupled from the field control unit into the waveguide.

The sealing arrangement is also configured for providing a peripheral seal between the housing (22) and the sealing unit (28). The sealing unit (28) includes an actuation arrangement (31) for pressurizing the sealant arrangement (32) within the sealing unit opening (26). The sealant arrangement (32) includes a plurality of sealing modules (33a-33e) each sized to form only a portion of the pressure actuated sealant arrangement (32).

Method of sealing off a cut off end of a subsea cable section

While laying a subsea cable, an exposed cut off end of the cable is exposed to water prior to permanently sealing off this cable end. To prevent damage to the cable due to contact with the often salt water, due to for example oxidation, a temporarily watertight seal is to be applied to the cut off end. A method for applying this seal is provided which comprises applying a mouldable sealant to the exposed end wherein the sealant acts as a watertight barrier between the water and the cut off end of the cable. The sealant may comprise an intermediate layer between the cut off end and a watertight outer layer arranged to increase adhesion between the cut off end and the outer layer. This allows a broader range of outer layer materials to be used as the outer layer material does not need to adhere directly with the cable.
