Photonic coupler
A photonic coupler includes an input coupling section, an output coupling section, and a multimode interference (MMI) waveguide section. The input coupling section is adapted to receive an input optical signal along an input waveguide channel. The output coupling section is adapted to output a pair of output optical signals along output waveguide channels. The output optical signals having output optical powers split from the input optical signal. The MMI waveguide section is optically coupled between the input and output coupling sections. Notched waveguide sections may each be disposed between the MMI waveguide section and a corresponding one of the input or output coupling sections and/or the MMI waveguide section may include curvilinear sidewalls.
INFORMATION COMMUNICATION METHOD
A visible light communication method transmits a signal by visible light communication. The visible light communication method includes modulating the signal into a predetermined blinking pattern, and transmitting the signal by causing visible light to blink according to the predetermined blinking pattern, from a projector disposed in an indoor space surrounded by a wall toward the wall. The visible light communication method also includes projecting video from the projector toward the wall, wherein the visible light is reflected by the wall to prevent the signal from being received in an outside of the indoor space, and the signal is used to transmit data related to the video projected to a plurality of terminals in the indoor space.
Optical wireless communication device
An optical wireless communication device for transmitting data comprises a transmitter comprising a light source, a controller configured to control operation of the light source to produce modulated light comprising an optical wireless communication signal representative of said data, at least one proximity determining component configured to determine a proximity of an object, and a processing resource configured to determine whether the determined proximity is within a threshold distance, wherein the controller is configured to control operation of the transmitter and/or of at least one other component of the optical wireless communication device in dependence on whether the determined proximity is within the threshold distance.
Fiber optical transceiver and optical communication module
A fiber optical transceiver includes a package, a plurality of lead frames provided with the package and protruding outward from the package, a first circuit board installed in the package and electrically connected to the plurality of lead frames, and an optical element provided on the first circuit board. The package includes a ceramic portion formed of ceramic and covered with a metallized film.
Optical switching and electrical powering architecture for undersea mesh networking
Disclosed is an undersea power routing device including a first coupling port, a high voltage converter a second coupling port. The first coupling port may be configured to be coupled to an electrical power conductor and fiber optical cables of an undersea branch cable. The high voltage converter may be coupled to the first coupling port and operable to connect to the electrical power conductor via the first coupling port. The high voltage converter may be further operable to convert a high voltage electrical power supplied by the electrical power conductor to an output voltage having a lower voltage electrical power than the high voltage electrical power. The second coupling port may be configured to couple the high voltage converter to an interconnect cable. The high voltage converter, when coupled to the interconnect cable, may be operable to distribute the lower voltage electrical power to the interconnect cable.
Optical transceiver design for short distance communication systems based on microLEDs
MicroLEDs may be used for short-range optical communications. Signal equalization may be used to decrease distortion in transmitted and/or received information, including with the use of multi-level modulation formats.
Wide aperture optical communications
A plurality of electromagnetic radiation capture units are positioned under a focusing unit such as a dome, such that incoming electromagnetic radiation incident on the dome is deflected by it, to reach each of the capture units with a different timing and intensity. The profile for the timings and intensities can be determined for a given transmitter using a calibration signal, and the profile is then used to extra data from data signals transmitted by the transmitter.
OPTICAL COMPONENTS UNDERCUT BY A SEALED CAVITY
Structures including an optical component, such as an edge coupler, and methods of fabricating a structure that includes an optical component, such as an edge coupler. The structure includes a substrate having a sealed cavity, an optical component, and a dielectric layer between the optical component and the sealed cavity. The optical component is positioned vertically over the substrate and the dielectric layer, and the optical component overlaps with the sealed cavity in the substrate.
Optical repeater, transmission path fiber monitoring method, and optical transmission system
An optical repeater is a C+L-band repeater inserted between a first transmission path fiber and a second transmission path fiber. The optical repeater includes: a first optical fiber amplifier inserted in a first line, for amplifying a C-band signal; a second optical fiber amplifier inserted in a second line, for amplifying an L-band signal; a third optical fiber amplifier inserted in a third line, for amplifying a C-band signal; a fourth optical fiber amplifier inserted in a fourth line, for amplifying an L-band signal; and a first loopback means provided between an input to the first optical fiber amplifier or an output from the first optical fiber amplifier and an input to the third optical fiber amplifier or an output from the third optical fiber amplifier.
