Optical line controller system for controlling a passive optical network
Controller circuitry configured to control an optical transceiver of an optical line terminal, OLT, in a passive optical network, PON. The controller circuitry configured to derive a level of optical beat interference, OBI, of a received upstream optical signal from an optical transceiver of an optical network terminal, ONT; and set a wavelength of a downstream optical signal based on the level of OBI such that the wavelength is forced to differ from the upstream optical signal wavelength.
BUS DISTRIBUTION USING MULTIWAVELENGTH MULTIPLEXING
Command/address and timing information is distributed to buffer integrated circuits on a module using multiple wavelengths of light modulated with the same information. Each individual wavelength of modulated light carrying command/address information is received by a corresponding single buffer device that deserializes the command/address information and communicates it electrically to memory devices(s). Likewise, each individual wavelength of modulated light carrying timing/synchronization/clock information is received by a corresponding single buffer device and used to synchronize accesses to the memory device(s). Thus, multiple buffer integrated circuits on a module each receive information from the CPU using different wavelengths of light transmitted on the same waveguide.

Frequency division multiple access optical subcarriers
A network or system in which a hub or primary node may communicate with a plurality of leaf or secondary nodes. The hub node may operate or have a capacity greater than that of the leaf nodes. Accordingly, relatively inexpensive leaf nodes may be deployed to receive data carrying optical signals from, and supply data carrying optical signals to, the hub node. One or more connections may couple each leaf node to the hub node, whereby each connection may include one or more spans or segments of optical fibers, optical amplifiers, optical splitters/combiners, and optical add/drop multiplexer, for example. Optical subcarriers may be transmitted over such connections, each carrying a data stream. The subcarriers may be generated by a combination of a laser and a modulator, such that multiple lasers and modulators are not required, and costs may be reduced. As the bandwidth or capacity requirements of the leaf nodes change, the number of subcarriers, and thus the amount of data provided to each node, may be changed accordingly. Each subcarrier within a dedicated group of subcarriers may carry OAM or control channel information to a corresponding leaf node, and such information may be used by the leaf node to configure the leaf node to have a desired bandwidth or capacity.
Data center network having optical permutors
A network system for a data center is described in which a switch fabric may provide full mesh interconnectivity such that any servers may communicate packet data to any other of the servers using any of a number of parallel data paths. Moreover, according to the techniques described herein, edge-positioned access nodes, optical permutation devices and core switches of the switch fabric may be configured and arranged in a way such that the parallel data paths provide single L2/L3 hop, full mesh interconnections between any pairwise combination of the access nodes, even in massive data centers having tens of thousands of servers. The plurality of optical permutation devices permute communications across the optical ports based on wavelength so as to provide, in some cases, full-mesh optical connectivity between edge-facing ports and core-facing ports.

ALIEN WAVELENGTH MANAGEMENT
Systems and methods for alien wavelength management. One embodiment is an apparatus for managing alien wavelengths for a Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) system. The apparatus includes memory to store signal thresholds for alien wavelength signals transmitting over the WDM system, wherein the alien wavelength signals are generated by third-party equipment independently controlled from the WDM system. The apparatus also includes an Alien Wavelength Control Unit (AWCU) coupled between the third-party equipment and a channelization port of the WDM system, the AWCU configured to measure a signal parameter of an alien wavelength signal transmitted by the third-party equipment to the channelization port. The apparatus further includes a controller coupled with the AWCU and configured, in response to determining that the signal parameter is outside a signal threshold of the WDM system, to direct the AWCU to modify the alien wavelength signal to protect the WDM system.
