Phone appliance with display screen and methods for using the same
A phone appliance and method of use are provided where the phone appliance can be used to make VoIP communications calls. In a preferred embodiment, the phone appliance includes an RF connection for connecting to a computer or other computing device for facilitating the placement of the VoIP communications calls. The phone appliance further includes a display or portal for depicting advertisements provided by various advertisers. The advertisements provided can be used to defray all or part of the cost associated with making VoIP communications calls. The portal can also be used to communicate with businesses for ordering products. such as ordering a pizza, and to perform various services, such as purchasing stocks. In an exemplary system, the phone appliance is used to transmit to a control center information related to the user of the phone appliance, such as interests and buying habits, and queries for receiving additional information for various advertised products and services. The control center transmits the queries to the appropriate vendors for providing the user with additional information. Other functions and features are provided to the phone appliance, such as being able to download e-mail messages stored within or received by the computer.

A method and apparatus capable of minimizing power consumption occurring when a mobile device is changed from a sleep state to a wake-up state by partially controlling on/off of a display unit and partial booting control of a system function are provided. The method includes detecting a change of the mobile device from a sleep state to a wake-up state, turning on a display unit of the mobile device such that a first section of the mobile device displays an operating region, the first section including one or more portions of the display unit and less than an entire screen of the display unit and waiting for a system function registered in the operating region.

An impact of a delay time on a conversation is reduced. A voice packet is transmitted to a distribution server. A user is notified of being in a wait time from when transmission of the voice packet stops until when voice packet transmission becomes available next. The wait time is calculated on the basis of a first delay time that is a delay time between a local terminal and the distribution server and a second delay time that is the maximum delay time among delay times between a plurality of terminals including the local terminal and the distribution server. The user can easily know the speaking timing from the local terminal, and speech from the local terminal and speech from another terminal can be made not to mix.

The present technology can be applied to, for example, a mobile device such as a smartphone and the like capable of reproducing content including sound.

Circuits and methods that provide fine-resolution measurements of RF signal power within a communication system band, thereby more accurately measuring RF interference or the potential of RF interference. One aspect of embodiments of the present invention is a narrow-band tunable filter that includes two elements coupled in series, a periodic passband filter and a tunable filter. The purpose of the periodic passband filter is to generate multiple periodic passbands for an applied RF signal. The purpose of the tunable filter is to generate a single passband, generally with a tunable center frequency. By serially coupling the two filter types in either order, the single passband of the tunable filter is superimposed over one of the periodic passbands of the periodic passband filter, synergistically resulting in an extremely narrow passband.
Plug-in network device
A plug-in network device is disclosed. The plug-in network device can be used in association with a network management system and an infrastructure network device. The plug-in network device includes two antenna arrays, one of which is up-facing and one of which is front-facing. The plug-in network device can achieve wireless communication with the infrastructure network device via the up-facing antenna array and provide network services to wireless stations through the front-facing antenna array. The network management system can manage both the infrastructure network device and the plug-in network device.
