Processes, methods, systems, and devices are disclosed for pairing a target device with a source device and pairing the target device with a partner device. A user may choose between using the target device and the partner device without actively connecting the partner device to the source device. The target device and the partner device may each be a specialized device providing certain functions. For example, the source device may be a computing device, such as a smart phone or a tablet computer. The target device may be a sound bar dedicated for playing high definition surround sound that outperforms internal speakers of the source device. And the partner device may be a noise-canceling headset. The user may want to seamlessly switch between playing sounds on the sound bard and the headset from time to time under different circumstances, without needing to manually pair the headset to the computing device.

Methods and devices are provided for ultra-wideband (UWB) communication. A first UWB device generates a discovery message providing information used for discovery of the first UWB device. The first UWB device broadcasts the discovery message through a narrowband (NB) discovery channel. The NB discovery channel is not associated with a UWB channel. The UWB channel is one of a plurality of candidate UWB channels allocated for the UWB communication.

Methods and systems are provided for handling communication in ultra-wideband (UWB) system. A first electronic device discovers at least one second electronic device to be on-boarded. The method and system perform at least one of determining, by the first electronic device, that the at least one discovered second electronic device is within an on-boarding range, and configuring information to the at least one discovered second electronic device by a connectionless message. The first electronic device establishes the communication with the at least one discovered second electronic device in the UWB system.

In one example, a server obtains an indication that a first mobile device is in a predetermined proximity to a non-mobile device. In response, the server permits the first mobile device to pair with the non-mobile device. The server generates whitelisted information associated with the first mobile device by adding information associated with the first mobile device to a whitelist that controls mobile device pairing for the non-mobile device. The server also obtains an indication that a given mobile device has obtained one or more keep-alive messages from the non-mobile device. Based on the whitelisted information, the server determines whether to permit the given mobile device to pair or remain paired with the non-mobile device. In response to determining to permit the given mobile device to pair or remain paired with the non-mobile device, the server permits the given mobile device to pair or remain paired with the non-mobile device.

Spontaneous low-complexity local sidelink networks in 5G/6G

Mobile devices, autonomous sensors and actuators, and myriad other IoT wireless devices demand low-complexity protocols in addition to 5G and 6G protocols. Disclosed are methods for devices to form spontaneous local sidelink networks without involvement of a base station. In a first aspect, a user device can broadcast a hailing message soliciting replies from all devices in range, each reply including the wireless address of the replying user device. In another aspect, each of the user devices in a sidelink network can periodically transmit a semaphore message indicating its wireless addresses, and a new arrival can join the sidelink network by appending its semaphore message to the others. After forming the sidelink network, the user devices can communicate among themselves unicast (addressed to a specific member of the sidelink network). Also disclosed are procedures for recovery from message collisions and transmission of emergency messages. Many other aspects are disclosed.

A first communication device prompts a plurality of second communication devices to transmit, during a contiguous time period reserved for a range measurement exchange, respective first null data packets (NDPs) at respective times. The first communication device receives first NDPs from at least some of the second communication devices during the contiguous time period, and transmits one or more second NDPs to the plurality of second communication devices. The first communication device uses reception of the first NDPs and transmission of the one or more second NDPs to determine respective ranges between the first communication device and respective second communication devices.

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving a notification from a serving base station regarding a communication device over a mobile network indicating discovery of a target base station, and obtaining a device type of the communication device and a first cell identifier of the target base station. Further embodiments include providing instructions to the serving base station to request the communication device to obtain a second cell identifier of the target base station, and obtaining the second cell identifier of the target base station from the serving base station over the mobile network. Additional embodiments include providing instructions to the serving base station to generate a communication link between the serving base station and the target base station based on the second cell identifier. A system and method for in-person proximity matching that allows a plurality of user electronic devices to identify and match with one another based on a compatibility profile. The matching is done using a near-field communication protocol, such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. The invention allows matching of users when they are within the near proximity, which is defined as approximately 1000 meters.

Establishing data channels between user devices and remote systems

Techniques for establishing communication channels between user devices experiencing network connectivity issues and remote communication systems are described herein. The techniques include the use of a secondary device to act as a proxy, or a “middle man,” to facilitate the communications with the user device. A user device may detect lack of network connectivity, and begin broadcasting advertisement messages that indicate the lack of connectivity. A secondary device may detect the advertisement message, and send a discovery message to a connectivity system indicating that it detected the advertisement message. The connectivity system can provide this information to a remote communication system, and the remote communication system can establish a connection with the secondary device and instruct the secondary device to establish a connection with the user device. The remote communication system then has a communication channel with the user device, using the secondary device, to troubleshoot the user device.
