The elastic body elastically transforms owing to a pressing force received in accompaniment to an advancing of the movement mechanism, increasing the size of an aperture portion for exposing the movement mechanism, and elastically recovers in accompaniment to a retreat of the movement mechanism, reducing the size of the aperture portion.

The sound control unit controls output of a plurality of operation sounds that is the output sound corresponding to a plurality of the motions of the own device, and changes the operation sound in a case where the plurality of motions has been recognized. The present technology can be applied to, for example, a robot.

The outer cover has an identification mechanism that provides an identification of a robot character software program, wherein the identification is electronically detected by the toy robot and in response the robot character software program is executed by the toy robot which changes behavior of the toy robot, whenever the outer cover is fitted onto the robot body housing. A robot system has a follower robot and a leader robot. The follower robot follows the path of the leader robot using infrared (IR) signals. The follower robot follows the physical path and positioning of the leader robot. The leader robot is permitted to travel an arbitrary path or is controlled by a wireless transmitter. Relative robot positioning, being distance or direction can use an infrared system between respective robots.

A robot includes an operation control unit that selects a motion of the robot, a drive mechanism that executes a motion selected by the operation control unit, an eye control unit that causes an eye image to be displayed on a monitor installed in the robot, and a recognizing unit that detects a user. The eye control unit causes a pupil region included in the eye image to change in accordance with a relative position of the user and the robot. A configuration may be such that the eye control unit causes the pupil region to change when detecting a sight line direction of the user, or when the user is in a predetermined range.

An entertainment system includes: a robot device capable of acting in an autonomous action mode in a real world; a server device configured to cause a virtual robot associated with the robot device to act in a virtual world; and a terminal device capable of displaying an image of the virtual world in which the virtual robot acts. The server device provides the image of the virtual world to the terminal device. The server device transmits a request from the virtual robot to the robot device. When the robot device acquires the request from the virtual robot, the robot device acts in a collaboration action mode in which collaboration is made with the virtual robot.
