Additive manufacturing methods for forming high-temperature composite structures and related structures
Methods for fabricating high-temperature composite structures (e.g., structures comprising carbon-carbon composite materials or ceramic composite matrix (CMC) materials and configured for use at temperature at or exceeding about 2000° F. (1093° C.)) include forming precursor structures by additive manufacturing (“AM”) (e.g., “3D printing”). The precursor structures are exposed to high temperatures to pyrolyze a precursor matric material of the initial 3D printed structure. A liquid resin is used to impregnate the pyrolyzed structure, to densify the structure into a near-net final shape. Use of expensive and time-consuming molds and post-processing machining may be avoided. Large, unitary, integrally formed parts conducive for use in high-temperature environments may be formed using the methods of the disclosure.
Method for producing a beam guide grid and a beam guide grid produced in accordance with the method
The invention relates to a process for producing a beam guiding grid (4), comprising a molding having a grid of passageways (40) and wall areas surrounding them, from radiation-absorbing metal powder and binder, especially tungsten powder and binder. Advantageous production is achieved in that the molding is produced by injection molding, wherein the homogenized mixture, as a prepared flowable injection compound, is injected using an injection molding machine into a molding tool (7) that produces the molding, into which movable mold cores (72) were introduced prior to filing with the molding composition.
Prepreg, laminate, and molding
The present invention aims at providing a prepreg for producing a laminate suitable as a structural material, and a laminate, which have excellent tensile shear joining strength, fatigue joining strength, and interlaminar fractural toughness values, and can be firmly integrated with another structural member by welding. The present invention is a prepreg including the following structural components [A], [B], and [C], wherein [C] is present on a surface of the prepreg, [C] is a crystalline thermoplastic resin having a glass transition temperature of 100 C. or higher or an amorphous thermoplastic resin having a glass transition temperature of 180 C. or higher, and the reinforcing fibers [A] are present which are included in a resin area including [B] and a resin area including [C] across an interface between the two resin areas: [A] reinforcing fibers; [B] a thermosetting resin; and [C] a thermoplastic resin.
Method for manufacturing a silicone elastomer article using a 3D printer
The invention relates to an additive manufacturing method for producing a three-dimensional elastomer silicone article. The elastomer silicone article is built up layer by layer by printing a silicone composition crosslinkable by addition reactions comprising at least one organopolysiloxane-polyoxyalkylene copolymer with a 3D printer selected from an extrusion 3D printer or a material jetting 3D printer.
Polymeric blend composite and a process for preparing the same
The present disclosure relates to a polymeric blend composite comprising Poly Ether Ketone/Poly-(2,5-Benzimidazole) containing pre-treated multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) between 0.5 to 5 wt % were melt processed on a twin-screw extruder and granules so obtained were injection molded to determine heat deflection temperature (HDT) of these composites and storage modulus using DMA. It was found that HDT and storage Modulus for so produced reinforced blends were unexpectedly extremely high as compared to PEK/ABPBI blends without MWCNTs.
Three-dimensional printed composites using engineered powders
A three-dimensional object comprises stacked substrate layers infiltrated by a hardened material comprising engineered powder that is transformed into a substance that flows and subsequently hardens into the hardened material in a spatial pattern that infiltrates positive regions, and does not infiltrate negative regions, in the substrate layers. The powder may be emulsion aggregation powder, chemically-produced toner powder, or a combination. It may be a thermoplastic or thermosettable polymer and may include nylon, elastomers, polyolefins, polyethylene, polyether ether ketone, polyimide, polyetherimide, polyphenylene sulfide, polystyrene, polypropylene, polymethyl methacrylate, and polyaryletherketone, or a combination. The powder particles may have a pre-specified controlled shape and/or a non-homogenous composition. Surface treatments and/or additives may be used to control powder flow and charge distribution. Each substrate layer may be a sheet-like structure comprising fibers held together by binder. The binder may include sodium silicate.
Recycled polymers for 3D printing
Waste product from any of a variety of processes (injection molding, selective laser sintering) is processed to form powders that have particle size and distribution optimal for a 3D printing technology known as Composite Based Additive Manufacturing (CBAM). Alternative recycling processes include grinding and sieving, emulsion extruding, and liquid-liquid phase separation.
Composite aerostructure with integrated heating element
A heated composite structure and a method for forming a heated composite structure. The structure includes carbon fibers embedded within a thermoplastic matrix. The carbon fibers are connected with first and second electrodes that are configured to be connected with an electric source such that applying current to the electrodes causes current to flow through the embedded carbon fibers to provide resistive heating sufficient to heat the composite structure to impede formation of ice on the composite structure.
Percutaneous absorption preparation for treating dementia comprising donepezil
A percutaneous absorption preparation is disclosed. The percutaneous absorption preparation contains donepezil for treatment of dementia, wherein the preparation includes: (a) donepezil or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt as active component, (b) propylene glycol monocaprylate as solubilizer, and (c) styrene-isoprene-styrene block copolymer (SIS) as adhesive. The percutaneous absorption preparation has low skin irritation and high skin penetration.
Twice recycled polymer powder composition for additive manufacturing including PEKK, siloxane and carbon fiber
A powder composition suitable for use in selective laser sintering for printing an object. The powder composition includes a first fraction having a polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) powder having a plurality of particles. The powder composition includes a second fraction having a plurality of siloxane particles that is dry blended with the PEKK powder prior to selective laser sintering of the powder. In some embodiments, the powder composition includes a third fraction of carbon fiber. The powder composition when used in selective laser sintering results in parts with more consistent results and improves process economics.
