MICROFLUIDIC VALVE

A microfluidic valve includes a carrier layer and a flexible membrane layer arranged on a surface of the carrier layer. The surface of the carrier layer has a valve chamber in the form of a spherical cap and a membrane formed by the flexible membrane layer covers at least the valve chamber. A plurality of microfluidic channels opening into the valve chamber are formed in the surface of the carrier layer. Moreover, an inflow channel and an outflow channel are connected to one another by a microfluidic connection channel. The connection channel and the valve chamber are positioned relative to each other in such a way that in the closed state of the membrane, a fluid can flow from the inflow channel via the connection channel into the outflow channel to bridge the valve chamber, while the at least one supply channel is closed by the membrane.

The present inventive concept relates to a microfluidic system for pressure-assisted capillary-driven flowing of a liquid. The system comprises: a first sub-system comprising a capillary flow channel, having a first flow resistance, arranged to receive the liquid and to flow the liquid along the capillary flow channel; a second sub-system comprising a pressure-assisting flow channel, having a second flow resistance, arranged to receive the liquid from the capillary flow channel, and to provide a pressure-assisted flow of the liquid in a direction away from the capillary flow channel; and a capillary valve, having a third flow resistance, comprising a capillary portion, wherein the capillary portion at a first end is connected to an interface between the capillary flow channel and the pressure-assisting flow channel, and at a second end is communicating with gaseous medium. The first flow resistance is larger than the third flow resistance, and the second flow resistance is larger than the third flow resistance, such that the liquid is flowing predominantly by capillary action in the capillary flow channel until a forefront of the liquid has reached the interface with the pressure-assisting flow channel, and by pressure-assisted capillary action after the forefront of the liquid has reached the interface with the pressure-assisted flow channel The present inventive concept further relates to a diagnostic device and a lab-on-a-chip device, comprising the microfluidic system.

A microfluidic valve formed in a body having a first and a second surface; an inlet channel extending in the body from the second surface; a first transverse channel extending in the body in a transverse direction with respect to the inlet channel; and an outlet channel extending in the body from the first surface. The inlet channel, the first transverse channel and the outlet channel form a fluidic path. The microfluidic valve further has an occluding portion, formed by the body and extending over the transverse channel; and a piezoelectric actuator coupled to the occluding portion and configured to move the occluding portion from an opening position of the valve, where the occluding portion does not interfere with the fluidic path, and a closing position of the valve, where the occluding portion interferes with and interrupts the fluidic path.

Microfluidic valve

A microfluidic valve may include a first portion of a liquid conduit to contain a gas, a second portion of a liquid conduit to contain a liquid, and a constriction between the first portion and the second portion and across which a capillary meniscus is to form between the gas and the liquid. The microfluidic valve may further include a drop jetting device within the second portion to open the valve by breaking the capillary meniscus across the constriction.

The technology described herein generally relates to systems for extracting polynucleotides from multiple samples, particularly from biological samples, and additionally to systems that subsequently amplify and detect the extracted polynucleotides. The technology more particularly relates to microfluidic systems that carry out PCR on multiple samples of nucleotides of interest within microfluidic channels, and detect those nucleotides. The technology still more particularly relates to automated devices for carrying out pipetting operations, particularly on samples in parallel, consistent with sample preparation and delivery of PCR-ready nucleotide extracts to a cartridge wherein PCR is run.

Linear compressor

A linear compressor includes a discharge valve detachably attached to a front end surface of a cylinder to open and close a compression space of the cylinder; and a valve spring elastically supporting a rear surface of the discharge valve to press the discharge valve toward the front end surface of the cylinder. The discharge valve includes reinforced fiber, and the reinforced fiber is arranged parallel to the front end surface of the cylinder. Accordingly, while a rigidity of the discharge valve is improved, a weight of the valve is reduced to enhance responsiveness of the valve, suppress abrasion of the cylinder, and reduce striking sound.

Microfluidic system and method of use thereof

This invention concerns an integrated microfluidic system that utilizes microfluidic chip technology to receive a patient sample including cells, expand the cells, reprogram the expanded cells and then store the reprogrammed cells in a microfluidic chip. These microfluidic chips with stored reprogrammed cells may then be used in scenarios of genetic differentiation into specific cell types. Overall this system and workflow is suitable as a hospital based device that will allow the generation of iPSCs from every patient for downstream diagnostic or therapeutic use.
