The edge trim member comprises interlocking parts and has a planer platform for rotating the trim member relative to the container. The planer platform has a cutout extending therethrough. The handle of the grasping tool is configured to be releasably secured to the platform. The system accommodates large and small cup- and cone-style filters and may be built-in to a coffee brewing machine.

A system for singly dispensing fibrous coffee filters from bulk includes a grasping tool having a handle with a working end and a container with an edge trim member for preventing bulk fibrous filters from passing freely through the opening in the container. The edge trim member comprises interlocking parts and has a planer platform for rotating the trim member relative to the container. The planer platform has a cutout extending therethrough. The handle of the grasping tool is configured to be releasably secured to the platform. The system accommodates large and small cup- and cone-style filters and may be built-in to a coffee brewing machine.

A disposable single-use beverage filter basket filled with beverage grounds, and a beverage brewer having a cartridge for placement of the beverage filter basket. A permeable filter basket has a rigid frame having a bottom, a plurality of ribs, and a top rim that define side openings, and a non-woven filter medium that is bonded thermally to the material of the frame to cover the side openings. The non-woven filter medium is made of recyclable or compostable plastic or bio-polymer, and frame is made of the material of the non-woven filter medium. The permeable filter basket is filled with beverage grounds and enclosed with a film cover. The inlet probe of the brewer pierces the cover and admits a heated liquid into the beverage grounds, and creates a brewed beverage that flows through the filter material and exits an opening in a bottom portion of the cartridge.

A beverage brewing material filter cup includes a receptacle configured to receive and hold brewing material. The receptacle includes a base, a sidewall, and a rim. The base has a peripheral edge. The sidewall extends outward from the peripheral edge of the base and terminates in an opening. The rim surrounds the sidewall opening to form an outside perimeter of the receptacle. At least the base and/or the sidewall is at least partially constructed of a water-permeable material.

A beverage brewing material filter cup includes a receptacle configured to receive and hold brewing material. The receptacle includes a base, a sidewall, and a rim. The base has a peripheral edge. The sidewall extends outward from the peripheral edge of the base and terminates in an opening. The rim surrounds the sidewall opening to form an outside perimeter of the receptacle. An adapter for single serving cartridges includes a coffee maker readable identification feature. The identification feature may be visual (for example any feature which may be read or a bar code), a readable magnetic strip, a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), or any feature able to contain information and provide that information to a reader. The adapter may be configured for known disposable single serving cartridges, and may include one or more needles to puncture the cartridges for use. The identification feature may inform the coffee maker that an adapter carrying a disposable single serving cartridge is in use, and adjust the coffee maker accordingly.

A drink filter system and method are disclosed. The system has a disposable drink filter having a filter portion, a first flange coupled to the filter portion, and a handle. The system also has a reusable cartridge having a cartridge housing and a cartridge lid positioned on the housing, at least one of the housing or the lid having a second flange. The first flange is shaped and configured to align the filter relative to the cartridge. The handle is shaped and configured to enable removal of the filter from the cartridge. The second flange is shaped and configured to align the lid relative to the housing.
