A single-serve capsule for making a beverage, having: a base element with a cavity, in which a raw beverage material is provided, the base element is made of a biodegradable material, a flange extending outwardly from the base element, the flange comprising a top side and an opposing bottom side, and a cover that is fastened to the top side of the flange to close the cavity, the cover is made of a same material as the base element. The single-serve capsule is free of a filter, and has an identifier, which makes it possible to individualize the respective single-serve capsule, the identifier is provided on the bottom side of the flange.

Systems, methods and cartridges for carbonating a precursor liquid, such as water, to form a beverage. A carbon dioxide source can be provided in a cartridge which is used to generate carbon dioxide gas that is dissolved into the precursor liquid. A beverage medium, such as a powdered drink mix or liquid syrup, may be provided in the same, or a separate cartridge as the carbon dioxide source and mixed with the precursor liquid to form a beverage. The use of one or more cartridges for the carbon dioxide source and/or beverage medium may make for an easy to use and mess-free system for making carbonated beverages, e.g., in the consumer's home.

A food product assembly may include a cartridge containing a liquid component medium that is usable by a beverage forming machine to produce a liquid component of the food product. A second container, to which the cartridge may be removably attached, may contain the insoluble component of the food product, and may receive the liquid component so as to hold both the insoluble component and liquid component together, e.g., for consumption by a user.

A brewing unit (100) for a beverage producing device (900) is disclosed. The brewing unit (100) includes a main body (102) defining a cavity (200) for receiving multiple types/formats of capsules (120). Further, one or more piercing members (106) are also included in the brewing unit (100). Furthermore, the one or more piercing members (106) are actuated by an actuator (108) to pierce or not to pierce the capsule (120) when the brewing unit (100) is in at least one of corresponding piercing mode/non-piercing mode.

Provided are a coffee extraction device and a coffee extraction method, which are capable of extracting coffee from a coffee capsule (capsule coffee) and the like. The coffee extraction device can comprise: a coffee extraction unit on which a coffee capsule is to be mounted; a pump for pressurizing water and supplying the same to the coffee extraction unit; a flow rate sensor for measuring the flow rate of water to be supplied to the coffee extraction unit; and a control unit for controlling the operation of the pump on the basis of the flow rate to be sensed at the flow rate sensor.
MULTICOMPARTMENT CAPSULES OF A BEVERAGE FORMING APPARATUS AND METHODS OF MAKING THEREOF
A multicompartment capsule for use with a beverage forming apparatus includes a base and a sidewall extending upwardly from the base. The sidewall includes a rim extending outwardly from an upper end thereof. The rim surrounds an opening of the multicompartment capsule wherein an upper surface of the outwardly extending rim is sealed to a lower surface of a lid. At least one partition extends through an interior of the multicompartment capsule so as to form a first sealed compartment that is fluidly isolated from a second sealed compartment. The first sealed compartment includes a first beverage formulation and the second sealed compartment includes a second beverage formulation. The first beverage formulation is reactive with the second beverage formulation and the partition separates the first beverage formulation from the second beverage formulation to extend the shelf life of the multicompartment capsule.
BEVERAGE EXTRACTING DEVICE AND WATER PURIFIER INCLUDING SAME
A beverage extracting device according to an embodiment of the present invention may comprise: an extracting part including an installing space in which a beverage capsule is installed; an opening and closing part connected to the extracting part, for opening or sealing the installing space; a link part connected to at least one from among the extracting part and the opening and closing part; and a perforating part for moving reciprocally according to the movement of the link part so as to perforate the beverage capsule.

An individual frozen drink dispenser includes a housing having a base configured to support a blender cup, a dispensing chamber disposed above the blender cup and configured to support a frozen beverage container containing frozen ingredients suitable for preparing a frozen drink, at least one dispensing mechanism configured to move from a pre-dispense position to a dispense position in which the dispensing mechanism drives the frozen ingredients from the frozen beverage container into the blender cup, and a drive mechanism coupled to the housing and configured to drive the movement of the dispensing mechanism from the pre-dispense position to the dispense position. A method of preparing a frozen drink is further disclosed.
