Machine (1) for preparing and dispensing a beverage (2), such as tea, coffee, hot chocolate, cold chocolate, milk, soup or baby food, wherein the machine comprises a capsule recognition module (8) for recognizing a type of a capsule (3) inserted in the machine (1), the capsule recognition module (8) comprising a light source (82) for lighting at least part of the surface of the capsule (3) and an optical sensor (81) for sensing an optical property of the at least part of the surface of the capsule (3); and wherein the capsule recognition module (8) is configured to: determine a correction value of the optical property by sensing the optical property of the at least part of the surface of the capsule (3) while said light source (82) is switched off; determine at least one sample value of the optical property by sensing the optical property of the at least part of the surface of the capsule (3) while the light source (82) is switched on; calculate a corrected sample value with the correction value and the at least one sample value; determine a type of the capsule by comparing the corrected sample value with at least one reference value, the at least one reference value being representative of a type of capsule.

The present invention discloses systems and processes for preparation of edible products, for example aromatic beverages such as espresso coffee and similar, based upon portions (7) of edible substance, for example coffee in a capsule, including an apparatus (1) that comprises a recipient placement disposition (2) adapted for placing a recipient (10, 10′) for collecting edible product, an envelope (3) of apparatus and an access disposition (4) that provides selective access to at least one of said recipient placement disposition (2) and an entry passageway (8) of portions, whereby the cycle of beverage preparation can be carried out by means of apprehension of at least one type of touchless input gesture in the proximal surrounding of the apparatus (1), preferentially in the proximal surrounding of said access disposition (4).

It is disclosed a method and system for recognizing coffee capsules used by a capsule coffee machine, wherein a vibration sensor is arranged within the capsule coffee machine to detect vibrations of a machine component (e.g. the pump, or the capsule holder, or the hydraulic circuit connecting the pump with the capsule holder) rigidly connected with the coffee capsule fitted in the machine during the brewing of a coffee beverage. As the brewing is started, the vibration sensor detects the vibrations to which the machine component (and all the other machine components rigidly connected thereto during the brewing, including the variable-mass coffee capsule) is subjected, and generates a vibration signal corresponding thereto. The vibration signal is then processed for determining at least one parameter thereof. The coffee capsule is then recognized based on the value of the determined parameter(s).

A beverage machine arranged to image at least a portion of a capsule held by a beverage forming station of the machine. Parts of the beverage forming station may be movable between open and closed positions, and a portion of the capsule may be imaged while parts of the forming station are between open and closed positions. A capsule image may be captured only when forming station parts are moved toward the closed position, and image date discarded if the forming station is moved toward the open position prior to beverage formation.

There is described a beverage preparation machine comprising a centrifugal brewing unit (2) for preparing a beverage by centrifugation of an ingredient contained in a capsule and mixed with a carrier liquid, the centrifugal brewing unit (2) comprising a centrifugal cell (3) for receiving such a capsule (2A, 2B, 2C); driving means (5) for rotating the centrifugal cell (3); a regulator for regulating a rotation speed of the centrifugal cell (3) by controlling the driving means (5) based on a feedback signal representative of a difference between a desired rotation speed and a measured rotation speed of a capsule (2A, 2B, 2C) rotated in the centrifugal cell (3); the machine further comprising: liquid supply means (6, 4) for supplying carrier liquid to the centrifugal brewing unit (2); an optical reading arrangement (100) for reading a code on a periphery of a capsule (2A, 2B, 2C) while the capsule (2A, 2B, 2C) is rotated relative to the optical reading arrangement (100) in the centrifugal cell (3) and generating an output signal representative of the code; wherein the beverage preparation machine is 15 configured to compute the feedback signal using an output signal of the optical reading arrangement (100) representative of at least part of a code of a capsule (2A, 2B, 2C) read by the optical reading arrangement (100).

An apparatus for preparing a coffee beverage. The apparatus comprises a holder for receiving a coffee container. The holder comprising at least one outlet opening having at least one orifice for generating a coffee beverage flow when coffee beverage is fed to the outlet opening. A liquid flow path extends between the orifice and at least one outflow opening for discharging coffee beverage from the apparatus, a coffee outlet chamber being included in the liquid flow path. The apparatus further comprises an air flow generator for during operation- generating a flow of air in the coffee outlet chamber for entraining in the flow of air an aroma of the coffee beverage; said coffee outlet chamber comprising at least one dispenser opening for dispensing coffee beverage aroma in a direction away from the apparatus, in particular into the direction of the user. The at least one dispenser opening is separate from the at least one outflow opening. A method for preparing coffee beverage comprises the step of generating a flow of air in the coffee outlet chamber.

A method for transmitting a data set from an operating device to a drinks preparation machine includes by the operating device: registering an input or a selection, which specifies the data set; by the drinks preparation machine, triggered by the user: transmitting a machine address of the drinks preparation machine to the operating device (4); by the operating device: receiving the machine address and transmitting the data set and the machine address to a coordination server; by the coordination server: storing the machine address and, assigned thereto, the data set; by the coordination server: transmitting this data set to the drinks preparation machine; by the drinks preparation machine: storing the data set and/or executing an action according to the data set.

A coffee preparation machine can include at least one sealed pod containing unroasted green coffee beans, a roasting system that accepts the at least one sealed pod, a grinding system, and a brewing system, where the brewing system, the roasting system, and the grinding system can be housed within a single self-contained unit.

A system and method for determining the consumption by an infant of beverages produced from capsules in a beverage production machine. Capsule information regarding a plurality of different types of capsules is stored in a server. Further at least one user account including personal information about the infant consuming beverage produced from capsules is stored in said server. A beverage is produced from a capsule and the capsule used therefore by the beverage production machine is identified. The information on the identified capsule is transmitted to the server; such information including at least the date and time the beverage is prepared.
