The coffee maker for brewing powder coffee contained in a cartridge comprises a brewing chamber adapted to receive the cartridge, at least one punching member for punching the cartridge and a pump for feeding brewing water into the brewing chamber. In order to avoid that the prepared coffee shows froth at its surface, the coffee maker comprises means for restricting the amount of water fed by the pump into the brewing chamber per unit of time. This means ensures that the brewing water flows through the cartridge essentially unpressurized.

A capsule or cartridge (1) including a cup-shaped body (2) with a bottom wall (3), a lateral wall (4) and a flange-like top formation (5) which is essentially planar and extends transversely towards the outside, and a cover (6) fixed to the flange-like formation (5) of the body (2), such as to define a chamber (7) containing the material for the preparation of the beverage, in particular ground roasted coffee. The lateral wall (4) of the body (2) has a plurality of projections (8) and recesses (9) which as a whole define at least an identification of the capsule (1). A code support for association with or part of a capsule used in delivering a beverage in a beverage producing device by centrifugation of the capsule is disclosed. A capsule that includes the code support, as well as a system to read and process the code support, are also disclosed. Further disclosed is a method of reading and processing the code support.

The present application relates to improvements in machines for the preparation of beverage and food products, and in particular to such a machine which utilizes a compressed tablet of food or beverage product, which is inserted into the brew chamber of the machine, into which a liquid is directed to break up or dissolve the tablet. The machine for preparing a beverage or food product from a compressed disc of at least one ingredient includes a sealable brew chamber, and said brew chamber includes means for mounting the disc so that it is able to spin freely around a central axis. The brew chamber further includes an at least one nozzle having an outlet in the brew chamber located to direct a jet of liquid at a peripheral edge of the disc mounted in the brew chamber.

A beverage system for making a beverage, including: a single-serve capsule including: a base element with a cavity, in which a raw beverage material is provided; a flange extending outwardly from the base element, the flange comprising a top side and an opposing bottom side; and a cover that is fastened to the top side of the flange to close the cavity, the cover is made of a different material than the base element; the single- serve capsule is free of a filter; the capsule has an identifier, which makes it possible to individualize the respective single-serve capsule, the identifier comprises a barcode that is provided on the bottom side of the flange; and a beverage machine including: a sensor/detector configured to read the barcode, a media chute configured to receive and support the single-serve capsule, and a pump controlled to supply water into the single-serve capsule.

An inlet arrangement of a beverage forming apparatus is provided, where the inlet arrangement is configured to deliver liquid to a beverage cartridge. The inlet arrangement includes a central inlet port and a plurality of inlet ports arranged around the central inlet port. An apparatus for preparing coffee grounds for a coffee brewing process includes a control system that receives a coffee order. The coffee order includes information indicative of a composition of coffee beans ordered, and a quantity of the coffee beans to be included in the composition. A metering device receives the coffee beans from a hopper assembly, and is controlled by the control system to: measure the quantity of the coffee beans to be included in the composition, and output the quantity of the coffee beans measured from an outlet aperture. An inlet aperture of a grinder receives the measured quantity of the coffee beans output through the outlet aperture of the metering device and grinds the coffee beans to produce ground coffee. A nozzle is arranged to introduce moisture to the ground coffee output by the grinder, producing ground and moistened coffee that is dispensed for brewing coffee in fulfillment of the coffee order.

A capsule for preparation of a beverage includes a container and a beverage ingredient contained therein. The container includes a code adapted for being identified or read by external reading means, and the code is arranged on the container to be read while the capsule is rotated around an axis of rotation traversing the capsule.

A method for the operation of a drinks preparation machine, for producing a total product while using a portion package includes the following steps, which are carried out by the drinks preparation machine: a receiving step for receiving, by a communication unit, an activation command for activating a certain action in the drinks preparation machine, and authentication information; an examination step for examining, on the basis of the authentication information, whether the activation command originates from an operating appliance that is authorized for activating the certain action in the drinks preparation machine; and only in the case that the operating appliance is authorized for this. carrying out the action, particularly a production step for producing the total product.
