Infusion device for making beverages using cartridges

An infusion device for making beverages using cartridges, such as capsules or pods, comprises an openable infusion unit (3) comprising at least one part (4) able to move between a home position and an operating position, a first standby zone (8) for a cartridge (2) being formed when the mobile part (4) is in the home position, first retaining means for a cartridge (2) in the first standby zone (8), a motor (13) for moving the mobile part (4), means for expelling the cartridge (2) from the unit (3), and at least one device (1) operation check and control unit (35); there are also second retaining means (36) positioned between a cartridge insertion section (34) and the first standby zone (8), to selectively retain a cartridge (2) at a second standby zone (37), the check and control unit (35) being programmed to cause the dispensing of two beverages, one after another, using two cartridges.

THERMALLY-ACTUATED FLOW-RESTRICTOR DEVICE FOR AIRCRAFT BEVERAGE MAKER

A thermally-actuated flow-restrictor device in an aircraft galley insert is provided that includes a housing formed of first and second flanged fittings. The first fitting includes an outlet port for connection to an aircraft galley insert, and the second fitting includes an inlet port for connection to an aircraft potable water supply. The second fitting also includes a boss surrounding the inlet port. A closure element contained within the housing includes a plurality of metals having different coefficients of thermal expansion. This allows the element to actuate depending upon the temperature of water contacting the closure element. When water having a predetermined temperature contacts the closure element, its surface facing the inlet port becomes convexly positioned proximal to the boss, thereby restricting the backflow of water through the flow-restrictor device. Once the closure element cools, its surface facing the inlet port becomes concave, resulting in normal device operation.

Scale detection systems and methods for aircraft beverage makers

A beverage maker may comprise a heating system, a temperature sensor operably coupled the heating system, and a controller. The controller may be configured to receive a series of measured temperature signals from the temperature sensor, calculate a change in temperature using the series of measured temperature signals, and calculate an efficiency of the heating system based on the change in temperature. The controller may further estimate a scale buildup based on the efficiency of the heating system, and store at least one of the estimated scale buildup or the efficiency of the heating system in a heating system performance database.

The present disclosure discloses an empty pumping prevention apparatus. A bottom of a water tank is provided with a water outlet, and a temperature sensor is provided proximate the water outlet. After a heater stops heating, a water pumping action is performed; during operation of a water pump, temperature data collected by the temperature sensor is continuously read, and a current slope of temperature drop is calculated; then it is determined whether there is water based on a value of the current slope of temperature drop; and the water pump stops operating when it is determined that there is no water in the water tank.
