A dual-purpose grinder and an operating method thereof. The grinder includes a material container assembly. According to the dual-purpose grinder, the material container assembly can be individually used to enable manual grinding, the material container assembly can also be combined with the external power assembly to form an automatic grinder, the grinding head and the grinding sleeve move relative to each other by rotation of the material container body.
