A manufacturing method for decorating natural leather including the steps of: jetting a decorative image with one or more radiation curable inkjet inks on a leather surface; and curing the radiation curable inkjet inks jetted on the leather surface; wherein the one or more radiation curable inkjet inks include a colorant and a polymerizable composition containing 0 5 to 15.0 wt % of one or more polyfunctional polymerizable compounds and at least 85.0 wt % of one or more monofunctional polymerizable compounds with the weight percentages based on the total weight of the polymerizable composition; wherein the one or more radiation curable inkjet inks include 0 to 35.0 wt % of organic solvent; and at least 85.0 wt % of one or more monofunctional polymerizable compounds; and wherein the glass transition temperature of the one or more radiation curable inkjet inks (I) is less than 25° C.

A manufacturing method for decorating natural leather with a decorative image includes applying on a crusted leather a base coat containing a pigment for providing a chromatic colour or an achromatic colour different from black, inkjet printing a colour image on the base coat using one or more pigmented UV curable inkjet inks, optionally applying a protective top coat on the image, and optionally applying a heat pressing or embossing step, wherein the chromatic colour or the achromatic colour different from black of the base coat and the inkjet printed colour image are used in combination to provide the decorative image.

A coating composition includes at least one, low Tg, polyol resin having hydroxyl groups available for crosslinking, a polyurethane crosslinker that crosslinks the hydroxyl groups when cured, and water in an amount from about 4 to 20 wt. % of the total weight of the coating composition. Characteristically, solvents other than water are present in an amount less than half the amount of water. The coating composition is advantageously used to finish leather.

A manufacturing method of decorated natural leather including the steps of: attaching a crusted leather (45,83) with its corium side by an adhesive (46) to a temporary carrier (47,80); inkjet printing on the crusted leather (45,83) on its grain side with one or more pigmented inkjet inks a decorative image containing a plurality of sub-images (85); cutting decorated leather pieces (87a to 87c) from the inkjet printed crusted leather; wherein the temporary carrier (45,83) includes a plurality of identifiers on its surface; wherein the decorated leather pieces (87a to 87c) correspond to sub-images of the decorative image (85); and wherein each decorated leather piece (87a to 87c) is attached via the corium side to part of the temporary carrier (47,80) including one or more identifiers (81).

A leather product such as a leather covering for a vehicular part includes a segment of leather with a base coat applied to a hide side and a color coat applied to the base coat to create an intermediate stage leather segment. A foil transfer is embossed into and secured with an adhesive to the intermediate stage leather segment. A top coat is then applied to the foil transfer and a surrounding portion of the intermediate stage leather segment after the foil transfer is secured to complete the leather product. A system and method of making the leather product is also disclosed.

An aqueous coating composition suitable for automotive leather finishing topcoats that has low odor and low VOC content, and also exhibits acceptable pot life.

A manufacturing method of decorated natural leather including the steps of: attaching a crusted leather (45) with its corium side by an adhesive (46) to a temporary carrier (47); inkjet printing the crusted leather (45) on its grain side with one or more pigmented inkjet inks; wherein the surface area of the temporary carrier (47) is larger than the surface area of the crusted leather (45).

A method for producing a layered material, which has a substrate layer and a layer of polyurethane bonded to the substrate layer. A leather, preferably a sanded grain leather, a textile material, preferably a woven fabric or a knitted fabric, a bonded leather material, or a microfiber nonwoven is used as the substrate layer and is bonded to the layer. According to the present teaching, at least one, preferably a single, layer of frothed polyurethane foam is applied to the substrate as the layer.

Provided is a leather material comprising a top coat having at least one layer on a leather substrate, wherein at least one of the layer contains a polycarbonate polyurethane resin, a polyester polyurethane resin, and a polyether polyurethane resin.

A leather finishing composition includes water, a polymeric component, and a non-ionic surfactant component covalently bonded to the polymeric component. Advantageously, the leather finishing composition is substantially free of ionic groups. A method for applying the leather finishing composition to a leather substrate is provided.
