PORTABLE BATHING SEAT FOR BATHTUB AND SHOWER

A portable bathing seat is described. The portable bathing seat includes a platform having a top surface and a bottom surface, a first long side, a second long side, a first short side and a second short side. The platform is secured above a bathing surface by at least two legs that each have one or more feet that engage the bathing surface or an adjacent surface. The platform also includes a transfer area proximal the first short side and the transfer area is advantageously at a wheelchair transfer height. The portable bathing seat also includes a transfer pommel secured to the platform proximal the first short side and a handle secured to the platform proximal the second short side. The portable bathing seat also includes a ballast reservoir positioned below the platform and configured to hold a ballast for providing stability to the portable bathing seat.

A bidet chair, having legs and a seat, for use in cleaning the body is disclosed. The seat has a spray port extending from the top side to the underside dimensioned to receive the face of a showerhead. Preferably a screen, extending completely or partially across the spray port prevents the showerhead from extending past the seat. A showerhead retaining member places the showerhead under the seat, positioning the face to expel water out the spray port. Preferably the seat also contains drain holes for water drainage during use. The showerhead retaining member can be a showerhead tray having a showerhead receiving area and support system to enable vertical movement of the showerhead tray. In another embodiment the showerhead retaining area can be a pair of rails to hold a retaining element containing the showerhead.

The transfer apparatus has a chair support member including a chair support track section that can be positioned in the washing enclosure base, a bridge portion with a bridge track section that is movably mounted to the chair support member. The transfer apparatus includes a lock system usable to secure the bridge portion in an in-use position and engaged with the wheelchair. A first lock inhibits rotational motion of the bridge portion. The first lock includes a retractable locking member that is biased to an extended, locking position. A second lock is usable to prevent longitudinal separation of the bridge portion and the wheelchair. The first and second lock can be automatically engaged when the bridge portion is moved to the in-use position.
