A smelting method capable of obtaining an iron-nickel alloy having a high nickel grade of 4% or higher by effectively facilitating a reduction reaction of pellets formed using a nickel oxide ore as a raw material. The present invention is a method for smelting a nickel oxide ore, by which an iron-nickel alloy is obtained by forming pellets from a nickel oxide ore and reducing and heating the pellets. In the pellet production step S1, a mixture is obtained by mixing raw materials that contain at least a nickel oxide ore and a carbonaceous reducing agent. In the reduction step S2, a furnace floor carbonaceous reducing agent is laid on the floor of the smelting furnace in advance when placing the obtained pellets in the smelting furnace and the pellets are placed on the furnace floor carbonaceous reducing agent and then reduced and heated.

Production process

A process for the production of a metal which comprises: carbothermal reduction of the corresponding metal oxide to produce a mixed gas stream comprising the metal and carbon monoxide; maintaining the mixed gas stream at a suitably elevated temperature to prevent reformation of the metal oxide; ejecting the mixed gas stream through a convergent-divergent nozzle in order to cool the mixed gas stream instantaneously to a temperature at which reformation of the metal oxide cannot take place; and separating and collecting the metal, wherein the nozzle is heated by means other than gas flow through the nozzle so that temperature of surfaces of the nozzle in contact with the mixed gas stream are maintained at a temperature sufficient to prevent deposition on the said surfaces of products from the gas stream.

Production process

A calcium, aluminum, and silicon alloy is provided. The alloy includes about 15 to 45% calcium, 20 to 40% aluminum, and 20 to 40% silicon.

Starting a smelting process

A method of starting a molten bath-based process for smelting a metalliferous material is disclosed. The method includes using the heat flux of water-cooled elements in lower parts of a smelting vessel to provide an indication of molten bath temperature during at least an early part of the start-up method and adjusting injection rates of oxygen-containing gas and/or carbonaceous material into the smelting vessel to control the molten bath temperature during start-up without exceeding critical heat flux levels and tripping the start-up method.

A method for processing positive electrode active material waste of lithium ion secondary batteries, the waste containing cobalt, nickel, manganese and lithium, the method including: a carbon mixing step of mixing the positive electrode active material waste in the form of powder with carbon to obtain a mixture having a ratio of a mass of carbon to a total mass of the positive electrode active material waste and the carbon of from 10% to 30%; a roasting step of roasting the mixture at a temperature of from 600° C. to 800° C. to obtain roasted powder; a dissolution step including a first dissolution process of dissolving lithium in the roasted powder in water or a lithium-containing solution, and a second dissolution process of dissolving the lithium in a residue obtained in the first dissolution process in water; and an acid leaching step of leaching a residue obtained in the lithium dissolution step with an acid.

Method for obtaining non-ferrous metals, in particular black and/or raw copper, from scrap containing organic matter

A method for obtaining non-ferrous metals, in particular black and/or raw copper, from scrap containing organic matter, comprises the following steps: i) providing a melting reactor, wherein the melting reactor includes a melting region, a combustion region and a pyrolysis region; ii) supplying the melting reactor with a mixture comprising the scrap such that it first passes through the pyrolysis region and the combustion region before it reaches the melting region, and is at least partially pre-pyrolyzed and/or combusted, such that an energy-containing gas stream is formed; iii) transferring the energy-containing gas stream into a thermal post-combustion chamber, in which the energy-containing gas stream is completely combusted and thermal energy released during combustion is carried off via an energy recovery unit; and iv) melting the scrap containing organic matter at least part of which has been pre-pyrolized and/or combusted.

METHOD FOR PRODUCING A PGM COLLECTOR ALLOY

A method for producing a PGM collector alloy comprising the steps of:

(1) providing (a) copper and/or silver, (b) material, which is to be processed melt-metallurgically, in the form of at least one sodium and/or potassium aluminosilicate support equipped with at least one PGM, and (c) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of iron oxides, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, sodium carbonate, and potassium carbonate,
(2) joint melting of the materials provided in step (1) at a temperature in the range of 1250 to <1450° C. by maintaining a 100:40 to 100:20 weight ratio of the materials provided in sub-steps (1b) and (1c), and a 35:65 to 80:20 weight ratio of copper and/or silver: PGM by forming a melt comprising two phases of different density,
(3) separating the upper phase of low density of molten slag from the lower phase of high density of molten PGM collector alloy by utilizing the density difference,
(4) allowing the melting phases separated from one another to cool down and solidify, and
(5) collecting the solidified PGM collector alloy.
