A composition, a machine component coated with the same, and a method of coating the machine component are provided. The composition includes a CoNiCrAlY alloy, where three or more elements of the CoNiCrAlY alloy are present in equimolar amounts, one of the three or more elements of the CoNiCrAlY alloy being aluminum (Al), and where a molar fraction of Al is between about 0.20 and about 0.25. The composition further includes a transition metal boride including at least one of: cobalt boride (Co.sub.2B), titanium boride (TiB.sub.2), zirconium boride (ZrB.sub.2), tantalum boride (TaB.sub.2), niobium boride (NiB.sub.2), or molybdenum boride (Mo.sub.2B), and a refractory alloy.

Casting aluminum alloys for high-performance applications

In various embodiments, aluminum alloys having yield strengths greater than 120 MPa, and typically in the range from 140 MPa to 175 MPa, are described. Further, such alloys can have electrical conductivity of greater than 45% IACS, typically in the range from 45-55% IACS. In one embodiment, the aluminum alloy comprises Si from 1 to 4.5 wt %, Mg from 0.3 to 0.5 wt %, TiB.sub.2 from 0.02 to 0.07 wt %, Fe less than 0.1 wt %, Zn less than 0.01 wt %, Cu less than 0.01 wt %, Mn less than 0.01 wt %, the remaining wt % being Al and incidental impurities. Such alloys can be used to cast a variety of automotive parts, including rotors, stators, busbars, inverters, and other parts.

The present invention provides a method for preparing an in-situ ternary nanoparticle-reinforced aluminum matrix composite (AMC). In this method, an in-situ reaction generation technique is used, and with a powder containing formation elements for producing reinforcing particles as a reactant, in conjunction with a low-frequency rotating magnetic field/ultrasonic field regulation technique, an aluminum-based composite material is prepared using nanoparticle intermediate alloy re-melting. An AA6016-based composite material reinforced by ternary nanoparticles has an average particle size of 65 nm, and has an obvious refinement phenomenon compared with unitary and dual-phase nanoparticles.

The invention relates to a process for manufacturing a part, involving forming consecutive solid metal layers (20.sub.1 . . . 20.sub.n) that are stacked on top of one another, each layer describing a pattern defined on the basis of a numerical model {M), each layer being formed by depositing a metal (25), referred to as filling metal, the filling metal being subjected to an input of energy so as to melt and constitute said layer upon solidifying, the filling metal being in the form of a powder (25) that is exposed to an energy beam (32), resulting in melting followed by solidification such that a solid layer (20.sub.1 . . . 20.sub.n) is formed, the process being characterized in that the filling metal (25) is an aluminum alloy comprising at least the following alloying elements: —Ni, in a moiety of 1 to 6%, preferably 1 to 5.5%, more preferably 2 to 5.5%; —Cr, in a moiety of 1 to 7%, preferably 3 to 6.5%; —Zr, in a moiety of 0.5 to 4%, preferably 1 to 3%; —Fe, in a moiety of no more than 1%, preferably between 0.05 and 0.5%, more preferably between 0.1 and 0.3%; —Si, in a moiety of no more than 1%, preferably no more than 0.5%. The invention also relates to a part obtained by said process. The alloy used in the additive manufacturing process according to the invention makes it possible to obtain parts with remarkable features.

The invention relates to a preparation method for a magnesium matrix composite. The preparation method comprises the following steps: (1) preparing magnesium ingots as raw materials and salt flux and reinforcements; (2) placing the salt flux in a crucible, performing heating to prepare salt flux melts, adding the reinforcements; (3) performing pouring into a normal-temperature crucible, and performing cooling to obtain precursors; (4) adding the raw materials in an iron crucible, and performing melting at 953K-1043K; (5) placing the precursors in raw material melt, after stirring, under a condition of 953K-993K, performing standing so that scum and melt are obtained; and (6) removing the scum, lowering temperature to 973K-982K, and performing casting. The method provided by the present invention is simple in process and low in cost. The method can be used for preparing bulk structural members of the magnesium matrix composite, and can be used for automatic production.

A high-strength copper-nickel-tin alloy with excellent castability, hot workability and cold workability, high resistance to abrasive wear, adhesive wear and fretting wear and improved resistance to corrosion and stress relaxation stability, consisting of (in weight %): 2.0-10.0% Ni, 2.0-10.0% Sn, 0.01-1.5% Si, 0.002-0.45% B, 0.001-0.09% P, selectively up to a maximum of 2.0% Co, optionally also up to a maximum of 2.0% Zn, selectively up to a maximum of 0.25% Pb, the residue being copper and unavoidable impurities. The ratio Si/B of the element contents in wt. % of the elements silicon and boron is a minimum 0.4 and a maximum 8 such that the copper-nickel-tin alloy has Si-containing and B-containing phases and phases of the systems Ni—Si—B, Ni—B, Ni—P and Ni—Si, which significantly improve the processing properties and use properties of the alloy.
