Disclosed is a support system (100) for supporting an offshore wind turbine comprising a steel support structure (180) for supporting the offshore wind turbine and a cathodic protection system (101-105) configured to protect the steel support structure from corrosion. The cathodic protection system comprising one or more galvanic anodes (101) arranged in connection with the steel support structure and a first electrical connection (102) electrically connecting the one or more galvanic anodes to the steel support structure. This allows the steel support structure to be polarized by the electrons flowing from the one or more galvanic anodes to the steel support structure. The first electrical connection is an adaptable electrical connection that can change the rate of electrons flowing from the one or more galvanic anodes to the steel support structure and thereby change the polarization of the steel support structure.

The invention relates to a system for applying a superimposed time-varying frequency electromagnetic wave to a target object or a target region that is formed by the target object and a medium surrounding the target object, comprising a device for generating a superimposed time-varying frequency electromagnetic wave where the time-varying AC wave is riding on the predefined DC bias voltage. When applied to the object or region, the superimposed time-varying frequency electromagnetic wave is able to induce a flow of ionic current having a DC component traveling in a pulsating and time-varying manner in the target object and/or in the medium and effect induced vibration of electrons and molecules of the target object and the medium. The invention also relates to a method applying a superimposed time-varying frequency electromagnetic wave to a target object or a target region. The method and the system of the invention significantly reduce the capital cost and require very low energy, with the environmentally friendly final products, and are able to result in various treatment effects simultaneously.

Cathodic corrosion and dry fire protection apparatus and methods for electric water heaters

The metal tank portion of an electric water heater is protected against corrosion utilizing a corrosion protection system that detects a voltage potential between the sheath portion of a tank water-immersed electric heating element and the tank. In one embodiment of the corrosion protection system the sensed sheath/tank potential is utilized to enable a user of the water heater to accurately gauge the necessity of replacing a sacrificial anode extending into the tank. In another corrosion protection system, the sensed sheath/tank potential is utilized to provide impressed current cathodic protection of the tank and also to prevent dry firing of the electric water heater.
