Each electrochemical deposition module includes an anode compartment configured to contain a volume of anolyte fluid, a cathode compartment configured to contain a volume of catholyte fluid, and a membrane separating the anode compartment from the cathode compartment. Each electrochemical deposition module further includes a workpiece holder configured to hold opposing edges of a flexible workpiece between first and second leg members via a clamping mechanism, and a loader module configured to position the flexible workpiece in the workpiece holder while holding the flexible workpiece using an air cushion on each opposing planar surface of the flexible workpiece.

For improving the current transfer during the electrolytic metallization of workpieces, a method is proposed: (a) providing a metal depositing apparatus 17, in which the workpiece, at least one anode 40, 41 and a metal deposition electrolyte AE are arranged and which has a device for electric current generation 60 and at least one current feeding device 31 with in each case at least one electrical contact element 34, 35 for making electrical contact with the workpiece; (b) bringing the at least one electrical contact element 34, 35 into contact with the workpiece; and (c) feeding electric current to the workpiece via the at least one electrical contact element 34, 35 in order that the deposition metal deposits on the workpiece. Before method step (b), in a further method step (d), deposition metal is deposited on the at least one electrical contact element 34, 35.

Method and apparatus for electrolytically depositing a deposition metal on a workpiece

A method of producing a metal strip coated with a coating, said coating containing chromium metal and chromium oxide and being electrolytically deposited from an electrolyte solution that contains a trivalent chromium compound and at least one salt for increasing conductivity and at least one acid or one base for setting a desired pH value, onto the metal strip by bringing the metal strip into electrolytically effective contact with the electrolyte solution during an electrolysis time. The metal strip is successively passed at a predefined strip travel speed in a strip travel direction through a plurality of electrolysis tanks successively arranged in the strip travel direction. At least the first electrolysis tank, as viewed in the strip travel direction, or a front group of electrolysis tanks is filled with a first electrolyte solution and the last electrolysis tank, as viewed in the strip travel direction, or a rear group of electrolysis tanks is filled with a second electrolyte solution. The second electrolyte solution contains no additional components apart from the trivalent chromium compound as well as the at least one salt and the at least one acid or base and is especially free of organic complexing agents and free of buffering agents.
