Improving sulfur recovery operations with processes based on novel CO.SUB.2 .over SO.SUB.2 .selective membranes and its combinations with SO.SUB.2 .over CO.SUB.2 .selective membranes
Methods and systems for recovering sulfur dioxide from a Claus unit process emissions stream are provided. The method comprises the steps of generating a process emissions stream from a thermal oxidizer or other combustion device, introducing the emissions stream to an SO.sub.2 removal system, introducing the SO.sub.2 rich stream from the SO.sub.2 removal system to a CO.sub.2 removal system, and introducing an enriched SO.sub.2 stream back to the Claus unit. The SO.sub.2 removal system can include one or more SO.sub.2 selective membranes. The CO.sub.2 removal system can include one or more CO.sub.2 selective membranes.

CONTINUOUS PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR PURIFYING SO2-CONTAINING GASES
The invention relates to a continuous process for purifying a gas containing 60-99 percent SO.sub.2 (sulfur dioxide) by volume and 1 to 40 percent steam by volume, followed by synthesis of SO.sub.3 (sulfur trioxide) without first drying the gas, and to an apparatus for carrying out said method.
STEAM SULFUROUS MATERIAL REFORMING AND THERMOCHEMICAL CYCLES RELATED THERETO
A method can include performing a series of reactions in a closed cycle, the series of reactions consisting of a hydrolysis reaction where a redox reagent is oxidized to a corresponding oxidized redox reagent with water contemporaneously with the production of hydrogen; and a reduction reaction where the oxidized redox reagent is reduced to the redox reagent using a sulfurous reactant contemporaneously with production of sulfur dioxide.
