STEAM METHANE REFORMING WITH STEAM REGENERATION
20210309515 · 2021-10-07 ·

A hydrocarbon is reacted with water in the presence of a catalyst to form hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide. Hydrogen is selectively allowed to pass through a hydrogen separation membrane to a permeate side of a reactor, while water and carbon-containing compounds remain in a retentate side of the reactor. An outlet stream is flowed from the retentate side to a heat exchanger. The outlet stream is cooled to form a cooled stream. The cooled stream is separated into a liquid phase and a vapor phase. The liquid phase is flowed to the heat exchanger and heated to form steam. The vapor phase is cooled to form condensed water and a first offgas stream. The first offgas stream is cooled to form condensed carbon dioxide and a second offgas stream. The steam and the second offgas stream are recycled to the reactor.

A hydrogen-supplying breathable layer in the present disclosure comprises: a thin layer wrapping a hydrogen-producing formula inside, having an airtight outer side as well as an air-permeable inner side on which a plurality of micro pores are opened and featuring a monolayer or a composite layer; a hydrogen-producing formula wrapped inside the thin layer and not dissipated but absorbing moistures in air or liquid water for generation of hydrogen; hydrogen permeating a plurality of micro pores and released to skin and intra-corporal parts. The hydrogen-producing formula in the hydrogen-supplying breathable layer comprises metal peroxides (metal hydroxides or metal hydrides) and aluminum powders (or silica powders); the breathable layer is applicable to a dressing pack or other sanitary paraphernalia in daily lives for relieving non-bacteria inflammations and promoting health care effects.

Catalytic membrane reactor, methods of making the same and methods of using the same for dehydrogenation reactions

A catalytic membrane reactor and methods of operating and producing the same are provided that efficiently produces highly pure hydrogen (H.sub.2) from ammonia (NH.sub.3) as well as operates according to other chemical conversion processes. In one embodiment, a tubular ceramic support made from porous yttria-stabilized zirconia has an outer surface that is impregnated with a metal catalyst such as ruthenium and then plated with a hydrogen permeable membrane such as palladium. An inner surface of the ceramic support is impregnated with cesium to promote conversion of ammonia to hydrogen and nitrogen (N.sub.2). The resulting catalytic membrane reactor produces highly pure hydrogen at low temperatures and with less catalytic loading. Therefore, ammonia can be used to effectively transport hydrogen for use in, for example, fuel cells in a vehicle.
