The disclosed methods may be used to treat various recalcitrant halogenated substances, such as perfluoroalkyls and polyfluoroalkyls. Particular combinations of reagents that may be used in the disclosed methods include but are not limited to: (1) persulfate, oxygen and ozone; (2) persulfate, salt, oxygen and ozone; (3) persulfate, phosphate, and/or oxygen; (4) persulfate, phosphate, oxygen and ozone; (5) persulfate, phosphate, salt and oxygen (6) persulfate, phosphate, salt, oxygen and ozone; (7) oxygen and salt; and (8) air and salt. The disclosed methods may enhance destruction of organic contaminants in the liquid phase and may also control the rate of aerosol or foam formation relative to the rate of chemical oxidation and/or reduction/transfer.
Use of basalt to adsorb toxic material
A method is described for using basalt to selectively adsorb organic toxic materials, such as dioxins, furans, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate, arsenic, mercury, chromium, copper, nickel, zinc, cadmium, lead, and the like, from substances such as sediment, which contains water and the toxic materials. Optionally, the basalt may be in the form of a liner, a cap, or a filter that surrounds, contains, or contacts sediment contaminated with the organic toxic material(s).
Chemical oxidation method and compounds
A method and system for the reduction of contamination in soil and groundwater is provided. Cyclic oligosaccharides can be used, for example, to carry oxidants, carry activators, solubilize organic contaminants and promote biodegradation.
SOIL AND WATER REMEDIATION METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TREATMENT OF RECALCITRANT HALOGENATED SUBSTANCES

The disclosed methods may enhance destruction of organic contaminants in the liquid phase and may also control the rate of aerosol or foam formation relative to the rate of chemical oxidation and/or reduction/transfer.
Fluid treatment apparatus
A fluid treatment apparatus for treating a target fluid is provided. The fluid treatment apparatus includes a cylindrical reactor and one or more catalyst members each having a rod-like or plate-like shape extending in a longitudinal direction within the reactor. The cylindrical reactor decomposes an organic substance contained in a mixed fluid of the target fluid with an oxidant by an oxidation reaction under heat and pressure. The cylindrical reactor has an introduction port on one end and a discharge port on the other end. An upstream end surface, relative to a direction of flow of the target fluid, of each of the catalyst members is located in a downstream vicinity of or upstream from an inflow position where the target fluid flows into the reactor through the introduction port. Each of the catalyst members is suspended with the upstream end surface being fixed.
Capture of fluorinated carbon compounds
The present invention describes a method of capturing a fluorinated carbon compound located within a liquid, the method comprising contacting the fluorinated carbon compound with a block copolymer having a backbone comprising a hydrophilic block and a fluoropolyether block, wherein the fluorinated carbon compound binds to and is captured by the block copolymer.
USE OF BASALT FOR ADSORBING TOXIC MATERIAL
Basalt selectively adsorbs organic toxic materials, such as dioxins, furans, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate, arsenic, mercury, chromium, copper, nickel, zinc, cadmium, lead, and the like, from substances such as sediment, which contains water and the toxic materials.
Water purification using porous carbon electrode
A water purification electrode composed of a porous carbon material is disclosed. The electrode may be used as a flow-through cathode in an electro-peroxone process providing high H.sub.2O.sub.2 production activity for electrochemical wastewater treatment. The porous carbon material is a binding agent-free carbon structure that enables H.sub.2O.sub.2 to be electro-generated in situ at cathode. The porous carbon material may be synthesized from resorcinol and can provide a relatively large reaction surface area of 200-800 m.sup.2/g. The porous carbon material also achieves low energy consumption as well as a wide pH working range, making it suitable for treating many types of organic, inorganic, and biological contaminants in water. The electrode may be integrated with an anode, ozone generator, and other components into a compact, integrated water purification system.
COMPOSITION WITH A TIME RELEASE MATERIAL FOR REMOVING HALOGENATED HYDROCARBONS FROM CONTAMINATED ENVIRONMENTS
A composition for remediation of soil and groundwater containing halogenated compounds. The remediation composition includes an elemental iron-based composition, which may include activated carbon capable of absorbing the halogenated compounds with numerous pores impregnated with elemental iron. The remediation composition further includes a first bioremediation material including a blend of one-to-many organisms capable of degrading the halogenated compounds. The remediation composition includes an organic compound or polymeric substance and a second bioremediation material including a blend of one-to-many organisms capable of degrading the organic compound or polymeric substance over time (e.g., 20 to 365 or more days to provide a time release substrate-creating material or platform) into smaller molecules or compounds used by the organisms in the first bioremediation material while degrading the halogenated compounds. The organic compound may be a complex carbohydrate such as food grade starch, chitin, or other complex carbohydrate such as one with low water solubility.
USE OF BASALT FIBER TO ADSORB TOXIC MATERIAL
Basalt selectively adsorbs organic toxic materials, such as dioxins, furans, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate, arsenic, mercury, chromium, copper, nickel, zinc, cadmium, lead, and the like, from substances such as sediment, which contains water and the toxic materials.
