20200148565 · 2020-05-14 · ·

Disclosed are methods, apparatuses and systems for the remediation of contaminated soils, groundwater, water, and/or waste using a combination of reagents. The disclosed methods may be used to treat various recalcitrant halogenated substances, such as perfluoroalkyls and polyfluoroalkyls. Particular combinations of reagents that may be used in the disclosed methods include but are not limited to: (1) persulfate, oxygen and ozone; (2) persulfate, salt, oxygen and ozone; (3) persulfate, phosphate, and/or oxygen; (4) persulfate, phosphate, oxygen and ozone; (5) persulfate, phosphate, salt and oxygen (6) persulfate, phosphate, salt, oxygen and ozone; (7) oxygen and salt; and (8) air and salt. The disclosed methods may include the transfer of contaminants from an aqueous phase to a foam prior to the destruction of the contaminants.

Bioremediation of 1,4-dioxane and chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons by propanotrophic bacteria

Methods of removing dioxane and optionally one or more CAHs such as 1,1-DCE, cis-1,2-DCE, trans-1,2-DCE, 1,2-DCA, 1,1-DCA, VC, and TCE from a liquid medium contaminated therewith include applying a feedstream of propane to the liquid medium in the presence of at least one propanotrophic bacteria strain selected from Azoarcus sp. DD4 (DD4) and Mycobacterium sp. DT1 (DT1). Propane, 1-propanol and/or 1-butanol may be employed as substrates in the bioaugmentation of the propanotrophic bacteria strain.

Gas-liquid plasma and bioreactor system and method for remediation of liquids and gases

A mixture comprising liquid water, a gas and at least one organic compound are injected into a non-thermal gas-liquid plasma discharge reactor to generate a flowing liquid film region with a gas stream flowing alongside. A plasma discharge is propagated along the flowing liquid film region. Water is dissociated and reactive species such as hydroxyl radicals, hydrogen peroxide and nitrogen oxides are formed. The organic compound reacts with the reactive species such as hydroxyl radicals and hydrogen peroxide present in the flowing liquid film region and in the flowing gas stream to produce organic compound dissociation products. At least some organic compound dissociation products and nitrogen oxides are transferred to a bioreactor for further degradation of organic compounds. The nitrogen oxides are used as nutrients for bacteria in the bioreactor. Feedback control of the plasma reactor is based on conditions detected and determined in the biological reactor.

Process for the removal of heavy metals from fluids

A process for removal of heavy metals and/or dioxins from a fluid including heavy metals, where the fluid is brought in contact with a mixture including between 30% vol. and 60% vol. of an activated carbon catalyst impregnated with sulfur, between 30% vol. and 60% vol. of an activated carbon catalyst impregnated with iron and between 5% vol. and 40% vol. of a filler material, the total of these three ingredients being 100% vol, where the fluid is left in contact with the mixture, the heavy metals and/or dioxins are absorbed onto the mixture to obtain a fluid with a depleted level of heavy metals, which fluid is then evacuated from the mixture.

Methods and systems for pH treatment and extraction of leachable resources and pollutants from sludge

A pH treatment and method for extraction of leachable resources and pollutants from sludge. A volume of wastewater sludge is initially dewatered followed by adding pH adjusting agents to the dewatered sludge to remove acid/base-soluble contaminants. The acid/base-soluble contaminants are flushed out or dewatered from the treated product. Treated sludge can then be sent to storage and held for beneficial uses.
