Disinfection of water mains using ultraviolet light and oxidizing agents

Methods and systems are provided for disinfecting water mains using ultraviolet (UV) light and advanced oxidation processes. One or more UV light sources are provided and secured to a movable device that moves axially in a pipe. The frequency and intensity of the UV light is determined based on characteristics of the pipe, such as its material and size. The rate at which the movable device moves through the pipe is also determined so that the interior surface of the pipe is properly disinfected. The movable device is remotely caused to move through the pipe. An oxidant supply component having a dispensing portion dispenses an oxidizing agent into the pipe. A portion of the emitted UV light may convert the dispensed oxidizing agent into additional oxidizing agents that further disinfect the pipe.

WATER DISINFECTION SYSTEM

A water disinfection system with a flow-through treatment chamber, a plurality of elongated ultraviolet lamps positioned parallel to each other in at least one array within the treatment chamber, and a stand-alone frame which holds in place the lamps of the array and which is constructed so that all lamps of the array can be lifted out of the chamber simultaneously. The array is disposed so that the water must pass through the array. The frame has a cuboid outer shape, an upstream end including front frame members, a downstream end including rear frame members, and a frame center section including side frame members. The array is contained inside the cuboid shape and the frame is positioned in the chamber in an unguided manner and has attachment elements for attaching the frame to a lifting mechanism.

Systems and methods for applying ultraviolet light

Systems and methods for applying light to an environment are provided. A system may include an elongate first body having a first side wall, a second side wall opposite the first side wall, and a bottom wall. The first body may define a lengthwise channel between the first side wall and the second side wall. The first body may have a first groove disposed along an inner surface of the first side wall, a second groove disposed along an inner surface of the second side wall, and a cover which may be coupled to the first body via the first groove and the second groove. The first body and the cover may collectively enclose at least a portion of the channel. The system may include an LED disposed within the channel.

The support element includes a supporting structure containing a ring element and from thereon radially inwardly running arms. The arms are designed in such a way that during assembly the arms are resiliently deformed and wherein, if assembled, the arms are pressed against the sleeve, so that the free end of the ultraviolet radiation source is held by the arms in a resilient manner.

Systems and methods for applying light to an environment are provided. A system may include a plurality of light emitting diode (LED) arrays. Each LED array may include one or more LEDs that are configured to be powered on and off together. The system may be configured such that, during a first timeslot, a pulsed power input is applied to a first LED array, and during a second timeslot, the pulsed power input is applied to the second LED array.

Provided is a flowing-water sterilization system that includes a flow channel for passing seawater to be sterilized, and a light source emitting ultraviolet light to irradiate the seawater passing through the flow channel, wherein the light source includes a light-emitting diode that emits light not including infrared light. The light-emitting diode may emit ultraviolet light that has a wavelength of not less than 250 nm and not more than 350 nm and does not include light with a wavelength of not more than 200 nm. The system may further include a cooling unit for cooling the light source.
