METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SHAPING A GLASS SHEET

Methods of shaping a glass sheet are described comprising heating the glass sheet to a temperature for shaping; positioning the glass sheet on a shaping support; shaping the glass sheet on the shaping support, wherein during the shaping of the glass sheet at least one portion of the glass sheet is deliberately cooled. In preferred embodiments, the shaping of the glass sheet involves press bending a heat softened glass sheet between a lower shaping support and an upper shaping member, and wherein during the shaping of the glass sheet on the shaping support only a portion of the major surface of the glass sheet facing the lower shaping support is cooled by directing one or more jet of air onto said portion.

A device for bending glass panes, includes a lower press-bending mould with a frame-shaped contact surface, an upper press-bending mould arranged opposite the contact surface, wherein the lower press-bending mould and the upper press-bending mould are suitable for reshaping a glass pane situated therebetween by pressing, wherein the side edge of the glass pane rests on the contact surface along a contact line, wherein during pressing, the contact line migrates from a first contact line all the way to a pressing line, and wherein the contact surface between the first contact line and the pressing line is convexly curved.

A curved cover glass includes a plate-like glass body having a first surface, a second surface facing the first surface and at least one end face. The plate-like glass body has an average thickness of 5 mm or less. Among tangential directions on the first surface at an arbitrary point, when an X-axis is assumed to be a direction in which a first curvature radius R.sub.1 in cross-section of the first surface in an XZ plane is minimum, the first surface has a curvature part in which the surface is bent in the X-axis direction at least at one point on the first surface. The first curvature radius R.sub.1 is 10,000 mm or less. The curvature part includes at least one opening or concave part extending from the first surface to the second surface.

A curved cover glass includes a plate-like glass body having a first surface, a second surface facing the first surface and at least one end face. Glass production apparatus and method for manufacturing glass

A glass production apparatus producing continuously curved glass for covers and containers includes a crucible, a calender device, a cutting device, a molding device, and a crystallizing device. The crucible melts glass raw material and outputs a glass melt to calender device. The calender device rolls and presses the glass melt to prepare a glass belt with a preset temperature. The cutting device cuts the glass belt with the preset temperature into glass members. The molding device include at least one molding mold and a manipulator. Each of the at least one molding mold curves at least one portion of the glass member with the preset temperature to prepare a curved glass member. The manipulator transfers the curved glass member to the crystallizing device, the crystallizing device crystallizes the curved glass member to prepare a curved crystalline glass member. A method for manufacturing such glass is also provided.

Disclosed herein are embodiments of a method of forming a glass sheet. In the method, a first bend radius is hot-formed in a first region at or above a first temperature. A second bend radius is cold-formed over a second region at a second temperature below the first temperature. The second bend radius is greater than the first bend radius. Also disclosed is a component of a vehicle interior system. The component includes a frame and a glass sheet. The glass sheet has a first curvature with a first bend radius formed by hot-forming. The glass sheet has a second curvature with a second bend radius, less than the first bend radius, formed by cold-forming. The glass sheet is adhered to the frame with an adhesive, and the adhesive is under greater stress in a region of the second curvature than in a region of the first curvature.

Ion exchangeable, opaque gahnite-spinel glass ceramics with high hardness and modulus

An opaque gahnite-spinel glass ceramic is provided. The glass ceramic includes a first crystal phase including (Mg.sub.xZn.sub.1-x)Al.sub.2O.sub.4 where x is less than 1 and a second crystal phase includes at least one of tetragonal ZrO.sub.2, MgTa.sub.2O.sub.6, mullite, and cordierite. The glass ceramic has a Young's modulus greater than or equal to 90 GPa, and has a hardness greater than or equal to 7.5 GPa. The glass ceramic may be ion exchanged. Methods for producing the glass ceramic are also provided.
