METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CONTINUOUS SEPARATION OF GLASS
A method for separating a thin glass, in which method the thin glass is progressively heated along a path which forms a parting line, wherein the heating of the glass is realized by way of the energy of at least one energy source within an area of action of the energy source on the thin glass, and, by way of a temperature gradient of the glass heated by way of the at least one energy source in relation to the surrounding glass, a mechanical stress is generated in the glass, by way of which mechanical stress, a crack propagates, following the mechanical stress, along the parting line.

Methods and apparatus provide for sourcing a glass web, the glass web having a length and a width transverse to the length; continuously moving the glass web from the source to a destination in a transport direction along the length of the glass web; and cutting the glass web at a cutting zone into at least first and second glass ribbons as the glass web is moved from the source to the destination, the first glass ribbon having a first width and the second glass ribbon having a second width, where the first and second widths are not equal.
VERSATILE GLASS FORMING CONVEYOR WITH 3-D VACUUM FORMING CAPABILITY
Various aspects of methods and systems are provided, which detail: a method, comprising: depositing a hot, flexible glass-containing ribbon along a plurality of sequentially conveyed molds; rolling a pinch roller over the surface of the glass-containing ribbon, such that at least one pinch region is actuated in the glass ribbon as the glass ribbon is pinched between a pinch edge of the pinch roller and the surface of the mold; and cooling the glass ribbon, separating the glass ribbon along the pinch region into discrete glass parts.
MECHANICALLY FORMING CRACK INITIATION DEFECTS IN THIN GLASS SUBSTRATES USING AN ABRASIVE SURFACE
A method for forming an initiation defect in a glass substrate to facilitate separating the glass substrate into a plurality of substrates is provided. The method includes providing the glass substrate and contacting a broad surface of the glass substrate with an abrasive surface thereby forming a field of initiation defects in the broad surface of the glass substrate. The field of initiation defects has a width of at least about three millimetres between outermost initiation defects. At least one initiation defect is heated with a laser source. The at least one initiation defect is cooled with a cooling fluid such that a crack initiates from the at least one initiation defect, the crack extending through a thickness of the glass substrate and propagating across the glass substrate to separate the glass substrate into the plurality of substrates.
METHODS OF MEASURING A SIZE OF EDGE DEFECTS OF GLASS SHEETS USING AN EDGE DEFECT GAUGE AND CORRESPONDING EDGE DEFECT GAUGE
An edge defect gauge that measures a size of edge defects of glass sheets, the edge defect gauge comprising: a body including opposite end edges and opposite side edges that extend between the end edges forming a body, the body having opposite flat faces; and at least one of (i) a dog ear measuring projection extending outward from one of the end edges at one of the side edges, the dog ear measuring projection having a predetermined height and a predetermined length or (ii) a cantilever measuring recess extending inward from the other end edge at the one of the side edges, the cantilever measuring recess having a predetermined height and a predetermined length.
Methods of fabricating a glass ribbon
Methods of fabricating a glass ribbon comprise the step of bending a glass ribbon in a cutting zone to provide a bent target segment with a bent orientation in the cutting zone. The methods further include the step of severing at least one of the edge portions from the central portion of the bent target segment within the cutting zone. Further methods are provided including the step of bending a glass ribbon in a bending zone downstream from a downward zone, wherein the glass ribbon includes an upwardly concave surface through the bending zone. The methods further include the step of severing at least one of the edge portions from the central portion of a target segment within the bending zone.
Methods of processing a glass ribbon
Methods of processing a glass ribbon are provided. The method includes the step of traversing the glass ribbon through a travel path at a predetermined velocity and severing the glass ribbon to create an upstream web and a downstream web. The method further includes the step of increasing a relative velocity of a downstream edge portion with respect to an upstream edge portion to create a gap between an upstream severed edge and a downstream severed edge. In other example methods, a segment of the glass ribbon is removed to create a gap between an upstream severed edge and a downstream severed edge. In still further example methods, an upstream severed edge is directed along a second travel path to create a gap between the upstream severed edge and a downstream severed edge.
METHOD FOR BREAKING OUT A SHEET OF GLASS
The method includes tracing a score line on the surface of the glass, using a scoring tool, and breaking out using a local pressure system applied on the opposite face and opposite the score line, the local pressure system being moved and pressed along the score line on the opposite face.
PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING GLASS SHEETS OF COMPLEX SHAPE
The process relates to the manufacture of a plurality of glazings of complex shape from a rectangular sheet of float glass of large dimensions. The process includes at a first station for cutting the glass sheet, scoring at least one cutting line corresponding to at least one ready-to-shape edge of the glazings; a first breaking operation; at a second cutting station, scoring at least one cutting line corresponding to at least one other ready-to-shape edge of the glazings, and a second breaking operation.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ALIGNING SCORING NEEDLES AND FOR SCORING GLASS SUBSTRATES
A method is provided for aligning scoring tools and for scoring glass, in particular thin glass, along predetermined scoring lines in preparation for breaking along the score. Glass substrates, in particular thin glass substrates, produced by such method are also provided. The method includes the determination of the actual orientation of the cutting edge of the scoring tool and aligning of the cutting edge to a target orientation of the cutting edge.
