An optical fiber includes an outer diameter less than 220 m, a glass fiber that includes a glass core and a glass cladding, a primary coating, and a secondary coating. The glass cladding surrounds and is in direct contact with the glass core. The primary coating surrounds and is in direct contact with the glass fiber. The primary coating can have a Young's modulus less than 0.5 MPa and a thickness less than 30.0 m. The secondary coating surrounds and is in direct contact with the primary coating. The secondary coating can have a thickness less than 27.5 m. A pullout force of the optical fiber can be less than a predetermined threshold when in an as-drawn state. The pullout force may increase by less than a factor of 2.0 upon aging the primary and secondary coatings on the glass fiber for at least 60 days.

Photonic crystal fiber, a method of production thereof and a supercontinuum light source

A Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) a method of its production and a supercontinuum light source comprising such PCF. The PCF has a longitudinal axis and includes a core extending along the length of said longitudinal axis and a cladding region surrounding the core. At least the cladding region includes a plurality of microstructures in the form of inclusions extending along the longitudinal axis of the PCF in at least a microstructured length section. In at least a degradation resistant length section of the microstructured length section the PCF includes hydrogen and/or deuterium. In at least the degradation resistant length section the PCF further includes a main coating surrounding the cladding region, which main coating is hermetic for the hydrogen and/or deuterium at a temperature below T.sub.h, wherein T.sub.h is at least about 50 C., preferably 50 C.<T.sub.h<250 C.

Optical fiber

Provided is an optical fiber containing an alkali metal element or the like having a smaller diffusion coefficient than K and having a low Rayleigh scattering loss. An optical fiber is composed of silica glass and includes a core and a cladding arranged to surround the core which has a lower refractive index than the core. The core includes a first core including a central axis and a second core arranged to surround the first core. The average concentration of an alkali metal element or alkaline-earth metal element in the first core is 10 mol ppm or less. The average concentration of chlorine in the first core is 2000 mol ppm or more. The average concentration of an alkali metal element or alkaline-earth metal element in the second core is 10 mol ppm or more. The average concentration of chlorine in the second core is 10 to 600 mol ppm.

Single-mode fiber with ultra low attenuation

A single-mode fiber with ultralow attenuation includes a core layer and cladding layers. The cladding layers includes an inner cladding layer surrounding the core layer, a trench cladding layer surrounding the inner cladding layer, an auxiliary outer cladding layer surrounding the trench cladding layer, and an outer cladding layer surrounding the auxiliary cladding layer. The core layer has a radius of 3.9-4.8 m and a relative refractive index difference of 0.08% to 0.10%. The inner cladding layer has a radius of 9-14 m and a relative refractive index difference of 0.40% to 0.15%. The trench cladding layer has a radius of 13-25 m and a refractive index difference of 0.7% to 0.3%. The auxiliary outer cladding layer has a radius of 30-50 m and a relative refractive index difference of 0.4% to 0.15%. The outer cladding layer is a pure silicon dioxide glass layer.

Image guide fiber

Provided is an image guide fiber that improves image quality while preventing a manufacturing problem. The image guide fiber according to the present disclosure has a numerical aperture NA in the range of 0.70 to 0.90. A linear thermal expansion coefficient difference , which is a value obtained by subtracting a linear thermal expansion coefficient .sub.2 at from 100 to 300 C. of clad glass, from a linear thermal expansion coefficient .sub.1 at from 100 to 300 C. of core glass, is in the range of 310.sup.7 C. to 1510.sup.7/ C. A glass-transition temperature Tg.sub.1 of the core glass is higher than a glass-transition temperature Tg.sub.2 of the clad glass. A core occupancy area ratio is 25% or more. A pixel density is 0.1 pixel/m.sup.2 or more.

MICROSTRUCTURED OPTICAL FIBER AND PREFORM FOR SAME

The invention relates to microstructured optical fibers that are drawn through hollow channels and have a core region, which extends along a fiber longitudinal axis, and a jacket region surrounding the core region. The aim of the invention is to reduce a damping increase due to corrosion and to reduce the emission of chlorine on the basis of the microstructured optical fibers. This is achieved in that at least some of the hollow channels are delimited by a wall material made of synthetic quartz glass which has a chlorine concentration of less than 300 wt. ppm and oxygen deficiency centers in a concentration of at least 21015 cm-3.

HIGH CHLORINE CONTENT LOW ATTENUATION OPTICAL FIBER

An optical fiber having a core comprising silica and greater than 1.5 wt % chlorine and less than 0.5 wt % F, said core having a refractive index .sub.1MAX, and an inner cladding region having refractive index .sub.2MIN surrounding the core, where .sub.1MAX>.sub.2MIN.

C., preferably 50? C.<T.sub.h<250? C.

The optical fiber offered is capable of not only restraining the attenuation due to glass defects, but also reducing the increase of manufacturing cost. The optical fiber is made of silica glass and includes a core and a cladding. The cladding encloses the core and has a refractive index smaller than that of the core. When the core is divided into inner core and outer core at half of the radius of the core, the average chlorine concentration of the inner core is larger than that of the outer core. The core includes any of the alkali metal group.
