In-situ heated disposition of parylene to enhance pore penetration into silicone

A composition of matter is described in which a porous material, such as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), is coated with parylene N, C, D, or AF-4 by vapor deposition polymerization while a temperature of the porous material's surface being coated is heated to between 60 C. and 120 C., or 80 C. and 85 C., during deposition. The parylene forms nano roots within the porous material that connect with a conformal surface coating of parylene. In some embodiments, a watertight separation chamber in an integrated microfluidic liquid chromatography device is fabricated by heating tunnels in micro-fabricated PDMS and depositing parylene within the heated tunnels.

GLASS MEMBER FOR DISPLAY DEVICE, METHOD OF FABRICATING THE GLASS MEMBER, AND DISPLAY DEVICE INCLUDING THE GLASS MEMBER

A glass member for a display device, a method of fabricating a glass member, and a display device including a glass member are provided. A method of fabricating a glass member for a display device includes: preparing a glass substrate including a first surface, a second surface facing the first surface, and a side surface connecting the first surface to the second surface; forming a protection layer on the side surface to cover a portion of the side surface; and etching a portion of the glass substrate exposed by the protection layer.

Method and composition for improving adhesion of metathesis compositions to substrates

A method of improving the adhesion of metathesis compositions, such as ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) compositions, to a substrate is disclosed, in which an adhesion promoter is added to a polymerizable resin composition in order to improve the adhesion of the polymerizing resin to a substrate material. The addition of the adhesion promoter has been found to provide beneficial improvements in the adhesion of metathesis, especially ROMP, compositions to substrates, particularly glass surfaces, leading to improved characteristics in ROMP materials formed therefrom. The adhesion promoter generally comprises a functionalized silane compound and a peroxide compound. A ROMP composition is further disclosed comprising a cyclic olefin, a ROMP metathesis catalyst, and the adhesion promoter. Polymer products produced via metathesis (ROMP) reactions of the invention may be utilized to provide a wide range of materials and in a variety of composite applications. The invention has utility in the fields of catalysis, organic synthesis, and polymer and materials chemistry and manufacture.

EMULSION COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR STRENGTHENING GLASS

The present invention provides, in various embodiments, compositions and methods for strengthening glass without heat or chemical processing of the glass itself. The compositions of the present invention are emulsions comprising polymer colloid particles that are functionalized with an organosilicon compound. The polymer colloid particles can fill surface defects in the glass due to their size being smaller than the surface defects, and the functional groups thereon can react with the surface of the glass to anchor the particles in the defects.
