An apparatus for stunning an animal with an exhaust gas mixture includes a stunning chamber located at a processing site to contain therein as many an animal selected to be stunned; and a combustion chamber located at the processing site for combusting a mixture to provide therefrom an exhaust gas mixture which includes carbon dioxide for stunning the animal in the stunning chamber. A related method and exhaust gas mixture are also provided.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ANESTHETIZING SLAUGHTER ANIMALS

An anesthetization apparatus for anesthetization of four-legged slaughter animals, prior to slaughter, wherein the anesthetization apparatus includes: a receiving section configured to receive a pre-filled box containing one or more slaughter animals; a anesthetization compartment; a transport mechanism for transporting the received box between the receiving section and the anesthetization compartment; and a removal mechanism for removing the box from the anesthetization compartment, wherein the anesthetization apparatus further comprises a stress-reducing compartment configured for receiving the box from the receiving section, accommodating the box for a period of time for calming the slaughter animals in the received box before anesthetizing; and wherein the transport mechanism is configured to transport the received box between the receiving section and the stress-reducing compartment and from the stress-reducing compartment to the anesthetization compartment.

A method is provided for reducing animal reactions when exposed to a pre- stunning relaxation gas and/or stunning gas during a pre-stunning and/or stunning process. The method includes exposing at least one animal to a pre-stunning relaxation gas and/or stunning gas for an exposure period and exposing at least one animal to at least one smell additive at least during a part of the exposure period, particularly during an initial part. Exposing the at least one animal to the at least one smell additive includes dispensing the at least one smell additive via a dispensing device. The smell additive is selected from the group of: one or more pheromones, chemical analogs of pheromones, natural fruity smells, and chemical analogs of natural fruity smells.

A method for supplying CO.sub.2 gas to a site comprising a facility (20) that requires CO.sub.2 or a mixture comprising CO.sub.2, such as an abattoir or a greenhouse for cultivating plants, comprises the following steps: a boiler (4) capable of supplying hot water to the site is arranged within the site, the boiler carrying out the process of oxycombustion between a fuel (14) and pure oxygen (1), the oxygen that supplies the boiler being obtained from a liquid oxygen source present on the site; and some or all of the CO.sub.2 contained in the flue gas produced by the boiler is recovered by transferring heat between the flue gas and the liquid oxygen in an exchanger (2).
