METHOD FOR IMPROVING THE WETTING OF A SURFACE OF A SOLID SUBSTRATE BY A LIQUID METAL
The invention is a method for treating a solid substrate, made from a first material, of metal or ceramic type, the method comprising placing the substrate in contact with a liquid metal, while the substrate is exposed to an ultrasonic wave called a power wave. At the level of a surface of the substrate, the power density is greater than a cavitation threshold of the liquid metal. Such exposure improves the wettability of the substrate surface by the liquid metal.
Aluminum-silicon-carbide composite and method of manufacturing same
Provided are an aluminum-silicon-carbide composite having high thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion, and low specific gravity and a method for producing the composite. Provided is an aluminum-silicon-carbide composite formed by impregnating a porous silicon carbide molded body with an aluminum alloy. The ratio of silicon carbide in the composite is 60 vol % or more, and the composite contains 60-75 mass % of silicon carbide having a particle diameter of 80 m or more and 800 m or less, 20-30 mass % of silicon carbide having a particle diameter of 8 m or more and less than 80 m, and 5-10 mass % of silicon carbide having a particle diameter of less than 8 m.
GASEOUS EMISSIONS TREATMENT COMPONENTS AND EXTRUSION METHODS FOR THEIR MANUFACTURE
In a method of making a gaseous emissions treatment component, a green ceramic mix is extruded through a die to form an extrusion having cells extending along the extrusion, the cells being bounded by walls dividing adjacent cells from one another. In concert with the extruding, metal is fed through the die with the extruded mix. A length of the extrusion and associated metal is then cut off and fired to form the component.
Chemical and topological surface modification to enhance coating adhesion and compatibility
A process of coating a substrate containing silicon with an environmental barrier coating, comprising altering a surface of the substrate and applying an environmental barrier layer to the surface of the substrate.

REPAIR AND/OR REINFORCEMENT OF OXIDE-OXIDE CMC
In some examples, techniques of repairing and/or reinforcing oxide-oxide ceramic matrix composite (CMC) materials using a metallic material. In one example, a method including applying a metallic material at an edge of an oxide-oxide CMC substrate; and heating the metallic material to diffuse the metal material into the oxide-oxide CMC substrate at the edge. In another example, a method including applying a metallic material onto a damaged area of the oxide-oxide CMC; applying a reinforcing phase material onto the damaged area of the oxide-oxide CMC; and heating the metallic material to diffuse the metallic material into the oxide-oxide CMC and attach the reinforcing phase material to the damaged area of the oxide-oxide CMC.

SIPHON DELIVERY METHOD FOR CONSISTENT MELT INFILTRATION
A method for delivering a flowable material into a mold or to infiltrate a preformed component, a fiber preform, or a green body includes: providing a crucible having a body configured as a reservoir to hold the flowable material; adding a metal, a metal alloy, or combination thereof into the body of the crucible, the metal or metal alloy having a predetermined melting point; heating the crucible with the metal or metal alloy contained therein to a temperature that is at or above the melting point of the metal or metal alloy; allowing the metal or metal alloy to melt to form the flowable material; and creating a siphon such that the molten metal or metal alloy flows from the body of the crucible to infiltrate the preformed component or to fill the mold.
Method for fabricating perfectly wetting surfaces
A method of preparing a substrate having a wetting surface, including confirming the presence of an open, interconnected pore network in a ceramic substrate to be wetted with a first metal, filling the open, interconnected pore network with a second metal, exuding the second metal to coat the surface of the substrate, and wetting the substrate with the first metal. The ceramic substrate is not decomposed by the first metal and the ceramic substrate is not decomposed by the second metal.
