A contactor is provided for controlling power delivery to the powered component, the contactor including main power contacts connected in the power line path and auxiliary contacts that operate the same as, or opposite to, the main power contacts. A monitoring system is operatively connected to the auxiliary contacts to monitor an open or closed state of the auxiliary contacts and includes a voltage source operatively connected to one of the auxiliary contacts and an electrical sensor for detecting one of (i) a voltage condition of the other auxiliary contact or (ii) a current flow condition between the auxiliary contacts.

A conveyor type ware washing machine uses a heat pump to reduce exhaust heat and to heat incoming water. A modulating valve is used to control incoming water flow through a heat exchanger of the heat pump. Processing circuitry automatically dynamically adjusts the modulating valve between a plurality of open states based on the sensed refrigerant head pressure of the heat pump, so that the refrigerant head pressure is maintained in a predefined range. The ware washing machine is efficient, and reduces the amount of heat exhausted to ambient. Related methods are also disclosed.

A household appliance and method for determining if an amount of deposition of scale exceeds a reference amount of deposition of scale may include obtaining a start temperature of a heating element, turning on the heating element at first point in time to heat the liquid from the liquid start temperature and simultaneously starting measuring a time interval from the first point in time, monitoring, at a second point in time, a behavior of the measured temperature of the heating element during heating of the liquid in the heating space in order to determine if a boiling temperature of the liquid has been reached, comparing the measured time interval with a reference heating duration and determining if the amount of deposition of scale on the heating element exceeds the reference amount of deposition of scale.

The system includes a chamber configured to contain a liquid, a siphon to drain the chamber, a transducer to deliver sonic energy to the chamber, and a plurality of straws disposed in the chamber. Each straw includes a tubular wall defining a lumen. The lumen has a length and a cross-sectional area, and the cross-sectional area is substantially constant over the length.
