The handle may also include an instrument control system for controlling operation of an instrument extendable through the shaft.
Scanning laser projection display for small handheld devices
Image projection devices, high-speed fiber scanned displays and related methods for projecting an image onto a surface and interfacing with the projected image are provided. A method for projecting one or more images and obtaining feedback with an optical input-output assembly is provided. The input-output assembly comprising a light-scanning optical fiber and a sensor. The method includes generating a sequence of light in response to one or more image representations and a scan pattern of the optical fiber, articulating the optical fiber in the scan pattern, projecting the sequence of light from the articulated optical fiber, and generating a feedback signal with the sensor in response to reflections of the sequence of light.
Specimen chamber for optical imaging of radiopharmaceuticals
Apparatus for optical imaging of Cerenkov luminescence from an object subsequent to the object receiving a dose of a radiopharmaceutical, the apparatus comprising: a light tight enclosure within which the object can be received at a sample location; an imaging means; a means to mitigate direct particle impingement between the sample location and the imaging means; and one or more optical elements for transmitting Cerenkov photons from within the light tight enclosure to the imaging means.
Pedicle endoscope
The Pedicle Endoscope represents a new way to image the insertion of screws in vertebrae with the aid of fiber optics. The endoscope can operate in the visible and infrared spectra and is used in conjunction with a polyaxial or multiaxial screwdriver assembly. The mechanical assembly is comprised of a screwdriver, a polyaxial or multiaxial shaft, and a pedicle screw. The polyaxial shaft is inserted in the screwdriver and this assembly couples with the pedicle screw. Once this mechanical assembly is integrated, the endoscope is inserted through a bore that runs along the polyaxial shaft and the pedicle screw and it comes out of the screw tip, imaging the progression of the screw as it penetrates the incision in the vertebra. The endoscope consists of three fiber cores, one for imaging and two for illumination and a conduit for irrigation and air suction. Externally, the fiber cores and the conduit terminate in a fiber bundle that connects the imaging fibers to an imaging device, the illumination fibers to an illumination source and the conduit to an irrigation or suction device.
ILLUMINATION DEVICE AND ENDOSCOPE
An illumination device comprises: an optical member that is provided with a circular ring-shaped or horseshoe-shaped light-guiding layer and diffusion layer, which are laminated in a central axis direction, the light-guiding layer having a light-entrance surface facing a tangential direction; and a light-introducing member that is disposed at the radially outer side of the optical member and that introduces illumination light into the light-guiding layer from the light-entrance surface, in the tangential direction; wherein the diffusion layer diffuses the illumination light entering from the light-guiding layer by volume scattering, and the optical member is formed, at least, of one end surface in the axial direction and emits the illumination light emitted from the diffusion layer.
