Process for producing alkyl methacrylates with improved water and acid management
A process for producing alkyl methacrylates, in particular methyl methacrylate (MMA), includes production of methacrolein (MAL) in a first reaction stage; direct oxidative esterification (DOE) of the methacrolein with an alcohol, preferably methanol, to afford an alkyl methacrylate in a second reaction stage: and workup of the alkyl methacrylate crude product from the second reaction stage. An optimized workup of the reactor output from the oxidative esterification of methacrolein involves minimizing the amount of employed water, the amount of employed acid, and/or the amount of aqueous waste streams, through an optimized recycling of the generated process water streams.

The present invention provides a method for controlling a soybean rust fungus having an amino acid substitution of F129L on mitochondrial cytochrome b protein. According to the present invention, a compound represented by formula (I) [wherein: Q represents a group represented by Q1, a group represented by Q2, a group represented by Q3, or a group represented by Q4 (wherein “•” represents a binding site to a benzene ring); R.sup.1 represents a C1-C4 alkyl group which may be optionally substituted with one or more halogen atoms, etc.; E represents R.sup.2—CH═CH—, etc.; R.sup.2 represents a cyclopropyl group, etc.] can be used to control a soybean rust fungus having an amino acid substitution of F129L on mitochondrial cytochrome b protein.

(Meth)acrylic oligomers
The invention provides (meth)acrylic oligomers prepared from C1-C20 alkyl and C5-C20 cycloalkyl (meth)acrylates, wherein said oligomers have a Mn of about 300 g/mole to about 3,000 g/mole; a Mw of about 700 g/mole to about 6,000 g/mole; a Mz of about 900 g/mole to about 10,000 g/mole. The oligomers may have a Yellowness Index, according to ASTM E313 of less than 2. The oligomers of the invention are useful as tackifiers in adhesive compositions, but also are believed to be useful also in general polymer modification as plasticizers, leveling agents, viscosity reducers (i.e., rheology modifiers), and for increasing solids content in solvent-borne applications of all types with little detrimental impact on viscosity. The invention also provides adhesive compositions and laminate articles coated on at least one side with the adhesive compositions of the invention.
