Metal Supported Powder Catalyst Matrix and Processes for Multiphase Chemical Reactions
A catalytic membrane composite that includes porous supported catalyst particles durably enmeshed in a porous fibrillated polymer membrane is provided. The porous fibrillated polymer membrane may be manipulated to take the form of a tube, disc, or diced tape and used in multiphase reaction systems. The supported catalyst particles are composed of at least one finely divided metal catalyst dispersed on a porous support substrate. High catalytic activity is gained by the effective fine dispersion of the finely divided metal catalyst such that the metal catalyst covers the support substrate and/or is interspersed in the pores of the support substrate. In some embodiments, the catalytic membrane composite may be introduced to a stirred tank autoclave reactor system, a continuous flow reactor system, or a Parr Shaker reaction system and used to effect the catalytic reaction.
POLYMER-SUPPORTED TRANSITION CATALYST
A long life catalyst is provided that is conveniently and inexpensively capable of being produced and that is highly active and has inhibited metal leakage. According to aspects of the present invention, a catalyst is provided that includes: a polymer including a plurality of first structural units and a plurality of second structural units; and metal acting as a catalytic center, wherein at least part of the metal is covered with the polymer, each of the plurality of first structural units has a first atom constituting a main chain of the polymer and a first substituent group bonded to the first atom, a second atom included in each of the plurality of second structural units is bonded to the first atom, and the second atom is different from the first atom, or at least one of all substituent groups on the second atom is different from the first substituent group.

Iron oxide supported rhodium catalyst for nitroarene reduction
A supported catalyst having rhodium particles with an average diameter of less than 1 nm disposed on a support material containing magnetic iron oxide (e.g. Fe.sub.3O.sub.4). A method of producing the supported catalyst and a process of reducing nitroarenes to corresponding aromatic amines employing the supported catalyst with a high product yield are also described. The supported catalyst may be recovered with ease using an external magnet and reused.

Process for working up waste water from nitrobenzene preparation
The invention relates to a process for working up alkaline waste water which is formed during washing of crude nitrobenzene obtained by nitration of benzene, wherein (i) the alkaline waste water is heated under an increased pressure with respect to atmospheric pressure with exclusion of oxygen and is then cooled and expanded; (ii) the waste water obtained in (i) is purified further by stripping with a stripping gas and the stripping gas stream loaded with impurities is then cooled to a temperature of from 10° C. to 60° C.; and (iii) the liquid process product obtained in (ii) by cooling the stripping gas stream loaded with impurities is separated into an aqueous and an organic phase and the organic phase is used further in an aniline production process.
