CALPAIN MODULATORS AND THERAPEUTIC USES THEREOF
Small molecule calpain modulator compositions and pharmaceutical compositions can be prepared and used as therapeutic agents. Exemplary compositions include non-macrocyclic a-keto amide derivatives. The therarapeutic agents can be used for treating fibrotic disease or a resulting secondary disease state or condition. The small molecules can competitively bind with calpastatin and/or inhibit calpain through contact with CAPN1, CAPN2, and/or CAPN9 enzymes.
BACE1 inhibitors for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease
Described herein are compounds of the formulae (I)-(III) as well as pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds and methods for using such compounds/pharmaceutical compositions for treating Alzheimer's disease.

CANNABINOID DERIVATIVES
This disclosure relates generally to cannabinoid derivatives having the structural formula (I), pharmaceutical compositions comprising them, and methods of using the cannabinoid derivatives. In some embodiments, R.sup.1 is —CH.sub.2CH═C(CH.sub.3).sub.2, R.sup.2 is methyl, R.sup.3 is CsHn, R.sup.4 is —C(O)N(R.sup.4a)(R.sup.4b), R.sup.5 is H, R.sup.6 is OH, and R.sup.7 is H. Compounds of the present disclosure were tested in agonist and antagonist mode for both the CB1 and CB2 receptors. The tested compounds were generally found to exhibit activity in antagonist mode at the CB1 and CB2 receptor.

Chemical products for surface protection
Some implementations of the present disclosure prevent, reduce or at least slow equipment fouling using passivation as a treatment prior to contacting metallic components with hydrocarbon containing fluid, that is, an environment where fouling occurs. For example, one implementation includes a method of passivating heat exchangers in a SAGD process or system using the compositions and compounds of the present disclosure. The composition may be applied to a component prior to its first inclusion in an online system or following placing the system offline for maintenance. The composition may be used to treat metallic equipment surface(s), for example, via contacting them with a suspension or solution of the composition described herein, prior placing the system online. The method may further include treatment of the process fluid, for example, via injection or batch treatment of the composition with the compositions described herein into the process fluid.
