Clustered volley method and apparatus
Systems and methods are disclosed for assessing the function of parts of one or more sensory fields of a subject. Pupillary responses to at least two clustered ensembles of stimuli presented to predetermined portions of the sensory fields to be tested are measured. Each cluster comprises individual stimuli presented at locations across the sensory field, where the locations are defined on appropriate axes for the tested sensory fields. The method comprises: presenting statistically independent sequences of selected individual stimuli from the two or more clustered stimulus ensembles to a sensory field of a subject, thereby evoking pupillary responses in at least one pupil of the subject; detecting responses of the pupil or pupils evoked by the stimuli using at least one sensor; and processing the detected responses to relate the detected response to the sensory function of each component part of the sensory field. The sensory fields may be, but are not limited to, the visual fields of the two eyes of a subject.
Quantifying a blood vessel reflection parameter of the retina
A method for quantifying a blood vessel reflection parameter associated with a biological subject, the method including, in at least one electronic processing device determining, from a fundus image of an eye of the subject, edge points of at least one blood vessel in a region near an optic disc, processing the fundus image, at least in part using the edge points, to identify blood vessel edges and central reflex edges, determining blood vessel and central reflex parameter values using the blood vessel edges and determining a blood vessel reflection parameter value at least partially indicative of blood vessel reflection using the blood vessel and central reflex parameter values.
EYE EXAMINATION APPARATUS FOR USE WITH A SMARTPHONE
Disclosed is an eye examination apparatus for use with a smartphone or other portable electronic device. The eye examination apparatus has a body having a first eye opening and a second eye opening for a user to see into the eye examination apparatus using two eyes. In accordance with an embodiment of the disclosure, the eye examination apparatus has a coupling for receiving a smartphone having a display and a camera and for holding the smartphone in a predefined position in relation to the body, such that the camera of the smartphone is positioned to acquire ophthalmic images through the first eye opening, and the display of the smartphone is viewable through the second eye opening. In this manner, it is possible for the user to have an eye examination performed remotely outside of a clinician's office without specialized equipment by instead using their own smartphone.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR TREATING / PREVENTING REFRACTIVE ERRORS AS WELL AS FOR IMAGE PROCESSING AND DISPLAY
Disclosed are methods and devices useful in the field of image processing and display Disclosed are also methods and devices useful in the field of ophthalmology and, in some particular embodiments, useful for the non-invasive treatment and/or prevention of refractive errors.
Eye movement in response to visual stimuli for assessment of ophthalmic and neurological conditions
The present invention generally relates to apparatus, software and methods for assessing ocular, ophthalmic, neurological, physiological, psychological and/or behavioral conditions. As disclosed herein, the conditions are assessed using eye-tracking technology that beneficially eliminates the need for a subject to fixate and maintain focus during testing or to produce a secondary (non-optical) physical movement or audible response, i.e., feedback. The subject is only required to look at a series of individual visual stimuli, which is generally an involuntary reaction. The reduced need for cognitive and/or physical involvement of a subject allows the present modalities to achieve greater accuracy, due to reduced human error, and to be used with a wide variety of subjects, including small children, patients with physical disabilities or injuries, patients with diminished mental capacity, elderly patients, animals, etc.
Medical device support system
A system includes a base, and an actuator having a first end and a second end. The system also includes a shaft configured to rotate relative to the base, and a drive link fixed to the shaft. The system further includes a support arm. A first end of the support arm being fixed to the shaft such that rotation of the shaft causes commensurate rotation of the support arm. The system also includes a timing link having a first end pivotably connected to the base and a second end opposite the first end. Additionally, the system includes a mount coupled to the second end of the timing link. The mount is configured to maintain a substantially constant orientation relative to the base as the support arm transitions between a raised position and a lowered position.
VISION TEST FOR DETERMINING RETINAL DISEASE PROGRESSION
The present invention provides a reading test to measure vision loss. In one embodiment, the vision loss is due to disease progression. The tests are useful in evaluating the effects of intervention in vision deterioration. The tests are non-invasive, simple, quick, sensitive, reproducible, and easy to administer. The tests measure the subject's reading speed and accuracy under defined conditions of illumination and contrast. The results of these tests may be used to determine if treatment of a disease should be initiated, terminated, altered, or remain unchanged.
Foldable Ophthalmic System
There is a need for robust and portable system, and apparatus for ophthalmology. We propose use of foldable ophthalmic system. Our system will have a chin-rest (or face-rest or forehead rest) that can be folded so that the ocular device could be transported in a brief-case type casing. Our system can be used for many modalities including optical coherence tomography.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR DETERMINING AT LEAST ONE ASTIGMATIC EFFECT OF AT LEAST ONE EYE
A method, a computer program, and a device for determining at least one astigmatic effect of at least one eye of a person are disclosed, as well as a related method for producing at least one spectacle lens for the at least one eye of the person. The method for determining the astigmatic effect includes: a) displaying an image to an eye of the person, the image including a line with a plurality of sections, wherein an orientation of each section with respect to an optical axis of the image differs from each other, respectively; b) recording a reaction of the person to the image at at least one point in time; and c) determining at least one value for at least one astigmatic effect of at least one eye of the person by evaluating the at least one reaction of the person at the point in time.
A COMPUTER IMPLEMENTED METHOD FOR ESTIMATING A READING SPEED OF AN INDIVIDUAL
A computer-implemented method for estimating a reading speed of an individual. The method comprises the steps of: providing a reading speed model, based on a reading speed function comprising a set of parameters and a set of metrics; determining a printed stimulus to be presented to the individual by way of a reading run of a reading test and determining one or more stimulus features associated therewith; controlling an administration of the reading test to the individual based on the one or more determined stimulus features; receiving reading speed observation data based on the presented printed stimulus and corresponding to one or more responses made by the individual in the reading test.
