System for and method of producing a pure starch slurry and alcohol by using combined corn wet and dry milling processes. A simple and lower cost process to obtain starch inside floury endosperm is provided. The starch can be highly purified to meet green technology process needs. The remaining starch inside the corn kernels can be used as feedstock for alcohol production and to produce valuable co-products such as oil and various animal feeds.

Milling Process

The present invention provides process for treating crop kernels, comprising the steps of a) soaking kernels in water to produce soaked kernels; b) grinding the soaked kernels; c) treating the soaked kernels in the presence of an effective amount of GH62 polypeptide having arabinofuranosidase activity or a GH43 polypeptide having arabinofuranosidase activity, wherein step c) is performed before, during or after step b).

Wet milling process

A methodology useful for predicting the texture of a heated starch suspension by predicting the storage modulus (G) of the starch suspension resulting from starch granule swelling during heating has been developed. Compositions and methods for producing starch with novel functionality

This invention disclosure relates to novel maize starch. The starch can be made from the newly developed waxy sugary-2 double-mutant maize that has low activity of Granule Bound Starch Synthase I (GBSSI), which results in low amylose level. The starch from newly developed waxy sugary-2 double-mutant is freeze-thaw stable and has high viscosity. In comparison with the starch of the existing waxy sugary-2 double-mutant maize, the new waxy sugary-2 double-mutant maize starch showed, inter alia, improved pasting profile, starch granule integrity, larger starch granule size, and higher viscosity.

GH5 and GH30 in Wet Milling

The instant application provides methods to improve the total starch yield and/or gluten yield from corn kernels in a wet milling process, the method comprising admixing corn kernels or a fraction of the corn kernels with an enzyme composition comprising an effective amount of one or more hydrolytic enzymes, wherein at least one of said hydrolytic enzymes is selected from the group consisting of a GH30 polypeptide, a GH5 polypeptide or a combination thereof.

Fiber Washing Method and System

The present invention provides to a fiber washing system, optimized for the use of hydrolytic enzymes in the system. Furthermore, the present invention provides to a method for improving starch and gluten yield in a wet milling process, preferably comprising the optimized fiber washing system.
