A method for producing the hotmelt adhesive composition includes adding a polymer produced from ethylene, one or more branched vinyl ester monomers, and optionally, vinyl acetate and a tackifier into a mixer, optionally adding wax and/or antioxidant into the mixer, and mixing the polymer and the tackifier, and the optional wax and/or antioxidant at a temperature in a range from 150° C. to 200° C. to form the hot melt adhesive composition. A method for bonding a substrate to a similar or dissimilar substrate includes applying the hotmelt adhesive composition to at least one substrate; and bonding the substrate and the hotmelt adhesive composition together. A multi-layer article comprises at least one layer of the hotmelt adhesive compositions and one or more substrate layers.

Copolymers of vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride, and vinyl esters of long chain carboxylic acids are soluble in low polarity organic solvents, and produce superior binder and seam-sealing compositions. The copolymers contain 50-75 wt. % vinyl chloride, 5-25 wt. % vinyl acetate, and 10-55 wt. % vinyl ester of long-chain carboxylic acid.

Monomer a: a compound represented by CH.sub.2═CH—R.sup.f (wherein R.sup.f is a C.sub.1-8 perfluoroalkyl group). Monomer b: a fluorine-free nonionic surfactant having a polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond. Monomer c: another monomer copolymerizable with the monomer a and the monomer b.

A method for producing a carboxy group-containing hydrogenated nitrile rubber includes a step of preparing a latex of a carboxy group-containing nitrile rubber by polymerizing a monomer mixture in a dispersive medium, the monomer mixture containing at least an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated nitrile monomer and a carboxy group-containing monomer; a step of heating the latex of the carboxy group-containing nitrile rubber at 50 to 85° C. in the state where the pH is adjusted in the range of 8.5 to 12; and a step of subjecting the latex of the carboxy group-containing nitrile rubber after the heating to a hydrogenation reaction in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst in the state where the pH is adjusted in the range of 5 to 8.
