Durable icephobic surfaces

Durable icephobic materials form anti-ice coatings on a variety of substrates, including for aircraft, powerlines, vehicles, marine structures, communications towers, outdoor equipment, and the like. The icephobic may comprise an elastomeric polymer with a low crosslink density (e.g., 1,300 mol/m3) and low initial ice adhesion strength (e.g., .sub.ice100 kPa prior to exposure to icing conditions). Further, the icephobic material maintains .sub.ice after 10 icing/deicing cycles that is 50% of the initial .sub.ice Introducing optional miscible liquids enhances interfacial slippage of chains in the elastomeric polymer. The low .sub.ice levels minimize ice buildup and eliminate necessary work to remove any accumulated ice via passive removal during normal operation. Other icephobic materials include linear polymers with plasticizers distributed therein or PDMS-silane coatings, both of which are free of any layers of surface liquids. Methods of making such icephobic materials are also provided.

ADHESIVE FILM, METHOD FOR FORMING AN ADHESIVE FILM, AND URETHANE POLYMER

The present invention provides an adhesive film including a resin having a silsesquioxane in a side chain and a urethane bond in a main chain, together with a method for forming the same. The inventive adhesive film has excellent stretchability and strength, with the film surface having higher adhesion and thinner film thickness.

A polymer preparation consisting of silane-functional polymers, including at least one polymer having at least one terminal group of formula (I) and at least one further silane terminal group, a method for producing the polymer preparation and a composition containing it. The polymer preparation has a surprisingly low viscosity, cross-links surprisingly quickly even without the use of EHS-critical catalysts such as organotin compounds or DBU, and hardens into a non-sticky material with good strength and elasticity. It is especially well suited as an elastic adhesive or sealant or as an elastic coating. The invention further relates to a method for lowering the viscosity of a polymer having at least one terminal group of formula (I) by introducing at least one further silane terminal group.

INSULATING LAYER-FORMING COMPOSITION AND THE USE THEREOF
20190264080 · 2019-08-29 ·

A composition forming an insulating layer is described, whereby a binder based on an alkoxysilane-functionalized polymer carries the alkoxy-functionalized silane group, containing water and an insulation layer-forming additive. The composition according to the invention results in a relatively high expansion rate, enabling coatings to be applied to achieve the layer thickness required for the respective fire resistance duration in a simple and rapid manner, whereby the layer thickness is reduced to a minimum but offers significant insulating effect. The composition according to the invention is particularly suitable for fire protection, especially for the coating of steel components, such as columns, beams, frame members, in order to increase the fire resistance duration.
