Epoxide functionalized polyaromatic feedstocks and processes for their preparation are described. The processes involve functionalizing polyaromatic hydrocarbon molecules and/or polyheterocyclic molecules present in petroleum or petrochemical streams with epoxide. The epoxide functionalized poly aromatic feedstock can be further treated so as to effect oligomerization or polymerization. The oligomers or polymers may be thermoplastic or thermoset materials and may find use in, for example, infrastructure applications, composites, fillers, fire retardants and 3-D printing materials.

Disclosed is an epoxide-functional adduct (E2) and an amine-functional adduct (A3) and coating compositions including these adducts. The epoxide-functional adduct (E2) comprises a reaction product of a reaction mixture comprising (a) an epoxy-containing compound (E1) and (b) a diamine comprising a cyclic ring and/or a polyamine comprising a cyclic ring (A1). The amine-functional adduct comprises a reaction product of a reaction mixture comprising the epoxy-functional adduct (E2) and a monoamine, diamine, and/or polyamine (A2), wherein the monoamine, diamine, and/or polyamine (A2) are different than the diamine comprising a cyclic ring and/or the polyamine comprising a cyclic ring (A1). The present invention is also directed to methods of making the compositions, methods of coating a substrate, and coated substrates.

A self-emulsifying epoxy composition is prepared by the components comprising an epoxide adduct a) and an epoxide compound b), the solid content of the self-emulsifying composition has a smaller particle size. The self-emulsifying epoxy composition can be used to prepare the coating composition which has favorable anti-corrosion-performance.

STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE COMPOSITIONS

Also disclosed herein are compositions including (a) an epoxy-capped flexibilizer; (b) a heat-activated latent curing agent; and optionally (c) rubber particles having a core/shell structure and/or graphenic carbon particles; (d) an epoxy/CTBN adduct; and/or (e) an epoxy/dimer acid adduct. The heat-activated latent curing agent may include at least one reaction product of reactants including an epoxy compound and an amine and/or an alkaloid.

PHOTOCURABLE ADHESIVE

There is provided a photocurable adhesive having good deep-section curability. A photocurable adhesive is formulated to be curable by laser light irradiation. The photocurable adhesive contains an epoxy adhesive component and titanium black. The content of the titanium black is 1 ppm by mass or more and 150 ppm by mass or less relative to 100 parts by mass of the epoxy adhesive component. The titanium black may have a primary particle size of 5 nm or more and 150 nm or less.
