A fluorinated ether compound, a fluorinated ether composition and a coating liquid capable of forming a surface layer excellent in initial water/oil repellency, fingerprint stain removability, abrasion resistance, light resistance and chemical resistance, an article having a surface layer and a method for producing it are provided. The fluorinated ether compound is represented by A-O—(R.sup.f1O).sub.m-Q.sup.1(R.sup.1).sub.b, wherein A is a C.sub.1-20, perfluoroalkyl group, R.sup.f1 is a perfluoroalkylene group, m is an integer of from 2 to 500, (R.sup.f1O).sub.m a n d may consist of two or more types of R.sup.f1O differing in the number of carbon atoms, Q.sup.1 is a (b+1) valent perfluorohydrocarbon group which may have a hydroxy group, R.sup.1 is a monovalent organic group having at least one hydrolyzable silyl group, b is an integer of at least 2, and the b R.sup.1 may be the same or different.

Also disclosed is a surface-treating agent containing the silane compound; a pellet including the surface-treating agent; and an article including a substrate and a layer on a surface of the substrate, wherein the layer is formed of the silane compound or the surface-treating agent.

SURFACE TREATING COMPOSITION

A surface treating composition is shown and described herein. A surface treating composition comprises (i) a hybrid siloxane oligomer comprises organosilicon units wherein the oligomer comprises organosilicon units with fluoro-functional groups, and organosilicon units with other reactive functionality, and (ii) a perfluoro(poly)ether group containing silane compound. The surface treating composition can be employed to provide a hydrophobic and/or oleophobic surface coating on a surface of a substrate, which may impart other beneficial properties to the article.

A substrate with a water and oil repellent layer having excellent abrasion resistance and a method for producing the substrate are provided. The substrate with a water and oil repellent layer contains a substrate, an undercoat layer formed on the surface of the substrate, and a water and oil repellent layer formed on the surface of the undercoat layer. The undercoat layer contains an oxide containing silicon and a specific element. MULTIPHASE COATINGS WITH SEPARATED FUNCTIONAL PARTICLES, AND METHODS OF MAKING AND USING THE SAME

Some variations provide a multiphase polymer composition comprising a first polymer material and a second polymer material that are chemically distinct, wherein the first polymer material and the second polymer material are microphase-separated on a microphase-separation length scale from about 0.1 microns to about 500 microns, wherein the multiphase polymer composition comprises first solid functional particles selectively dispersed within the first polymer material, and wherein the first solid functional particles are chemically distinct from the first polymer material and the second polymer material. Some embodiments provide an anti-corrosion composition comprising first corrosion-inhibitor particles or precursors selectively dispersed within the first polymer material, wherein the multiphase polymer composition optionally further comprises second corrosion-inhibitor particles or precursors selectively dispersed within the second polymer material. These multiphase polymer compositions may be used for other applications, such as self-cleaning, self-healing, or flame-retardant coatings. Methods of making and using these multiphase polymer compositions are disclosed.

A perfluoro surfactant and a preparation method therefor. A carbon fluorine bond is not prone to break when the perfluoro surfactant is used as an emulsifier in a fluorine polymer reaction, such that the average molecular weight of a fluorine polymer generated in the fluorine polymer reaction is significantly increased. The preparation method is implemented in a continuous micro-channel reaction system, where the retention time of a reactant in the reaction system can be greatly shortened to few minutes or even seconds, a back-mixing phenomenon in the reaction system can be basically eliminated, and thus the occurrence of a side reaction, an optical coupling reaction, can be greatly reduced. There are reaction stages comprising an ozonization reaction and a photo-oxidation reaction.
